The Estimating Manager plays a pivotal leadership role within Cantiro’s Central Services team, overseeing the delivery of estimating services across both single-family and multi-family residential projects nationwide. Reporting to the Director of Pre-Construction, this role is responsible for leading a team of 4-6 estimators, developing scalable systems and processes, and ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of all estimating deliverables.
This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for a candidate who can roll up their sleeves, build strong relationships with trade partners, and drive continuous improvement in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will bring a deep understanding of residential construction estimating, a business-oriented mindset, and a passion for developing people and processes.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of 4–6 estimators, including Senior Estimators and Estimators.
- Set clear goals, manage performance, and foster a collaborative and accountable team culture.
- Provide hands-on estimating support when needed to meet project deadlines or support regional teams.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and professional development within the team.
Centralized Estimating Operations
- Manage estimating as a centralized service supporting all Cantiro divisions across Canada.
- Ensure accurate and timely delivery of base budgets, takeoffs, proformas, and custom pricing for both single-family and multi-family projects (e.g., townhomes, mid-rise).
- Act as the primary point of contact for regional estimating needs, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
- Support remote divisions with estimating services, including during peak periods or resource gaps.
Process & Systems Optimization
- Lead the development and refinement of estimating processes, templates, and tools to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Champion the use of ERP systems (e.g., HomeFront, Newstar) and digital takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam, Revit).
- Maintain and enhance estimating databases, pricing libraries, and vendor information.
Stakeholder Engagement & Trade Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Construction, Procurement, Product Development, Finance) and external trade partners.
- Participate in trade meetings, lunch-and-learns, and site visits to foster collaboration and ensure alignment.
- Support tendering processes, including bid reviews, leveling, and trade selection recommendations.
Strategic & Business Support
- Collaborate with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and cost risk analysis.
- Provide estimating input during land acquisition and early-stage project feasibility assessments.
- Contribute to the strategic development of Cantiro’s centralized estimating function.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Architectural Technologies, or a related field.
- 10+ years of estimating experience in residential construction, with exposure to both single-family and multi-family projects.
- 3+ years of team leadership or management experience in an estimating or pre-construction environment.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., HomeFront, Newstar) and digital takeoff tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Revit).
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and drive process improvements.
- Experience working for a developer or homebuilder is strongly preferred.
- Willingness to travel to our Edmonton office on a daily basis.
