It was okay but they made it out to be way more daunting than necessary. I don't think there's a need to make joining a company seem like a lifestyle.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

The first interview part was great and more of a conversation to get to know me. No contrived questions but more about my hobbies and interests etc.

This interview process was quite organized and well managed. In the first email they sent after applying had a link to an online resources which contained lots of information such as; step by step interview process including estimated time, what the job will entail and expect, base salary (which I feel is quite low for what they are expecting you to do and manage, but that’s another topic), and how to prepare for the interviews. There are lots of tests to take and write including answering to a mock email inquiry by a customer in the application form. If your application gets picked up, then they ask you to answer yet another mock customer inquiry. The Life Story interview was great – the recruiter made me feel she genuinely wanted to find out what made me me, and who I am. For the technical interview, they provided a list of things to do in preparation (create a Shopify store of your own using free trial period, and perform several tasks, read up on help resources, and watch youtube videos) which I completed and then some more to be ready. I spent a whole week on preparation. They put you in a real life setting to see how you perform in this position, and so that you will see what to expect day to day in this position. They said to respond in “your own words”. There are three tasks they ask to complete; 1. Respond to two separate chats simultaneously, 2. Answer to an email inquiry, 3. Answer to a longer email inquiry. The mock customer questions were mostly well beyond the tasks they said to complete in preparation, and more complicated. After the first two tasks, they give you a constructive feedback that I found to be very thorough and useful. I’ve never received feedback from an interview that I could learn and take away with! Also, one comment I didn’t completely agree with, and I was able to bring up my point to the interviewer, which was great. They ask you to keep the feedback in mind when completing the next tasks. One thing I didn’t feel fair was that even though you are only able to create a trial version of the Shopify store which doesn’t have full features, at least half of the questions were on features that are NOT available in trial version. One of the feedback I received early on was to be more specific and provide detailed steps, but when you don’t have the feature available in front of you and actually see it, it’s impossible to write detailed steps. If you have to be detailed about something you don’t have access or don’t have, then you have to make up some bogus information/steps. As they said that this is real life simulation and they wanted me to respond as if I were responding to real customer, I didn’t want to make up something and provide the customer with steps that he/she can’t even follow. As they said to “use your own words” I didn’t think copy/pasting from a help documentation I found online was allowed. While I completely agree to be as detailed possible, they can’t expect to do so when they don’t provide the tools required to the candidates.

Hi! Thanks so much for being so candid here, a review of the process is always appreciated. The interview process is designed to be conversational; we want to get a feeling of your personality! And as it is conversational, the dialogue should go both ways. The constructive feedback we offer can always be discussed with your interviewer to get a clearer picture. Our Technical Interview is essentially a role-play of what your daily workflow would be like were you to accept the position here. You will be asked a variety of different questions by our merchants, no two days are the same! It's important to be able to multi-task and think quickly to find a resolution. I'd like to touch on the point you mentioned about not having access to certain parts of the admin section while on a trial: you would not have access to the checkout during the trial period. If the highest-tiered plan is selected in the Plan and Permissions setting, then you would have access to every other feature. There will also be times when you don't know the answer or have all the information. That is ok! There will constantly be more to learn and updates to revise, so you will learn how to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. This is where you will need to use your resources (our Help Docs have over 1000 pages of information on how to use the admin) to find the best way to help. Thank you again for the review, and best of luck if you decide to apply again in the future!
