      Entretien

      Interview process was around a month long, and consisted of the standard recruiter, life story, and team lead interviews. Questions were extremely easy and not detailed, and the interviewers were easily impressed. I have over 5 years of experience of account management experience and an advanced degree, so even though salary was not discussed, it seemed obvious someone with my background would expect commensurate compensation. HR had been a mess the entire time, and informed me I would be receiving an offer after they vetting my references. They then extended me an offer that was below my salary from before receiving my advanced degree... literally the paygrade of an entry level position. I have to wonder why they feel the need to vet references for such a loy paying job. The HR person was extremely rude throughout the process, and told me that she would work on seeing if the offer could be raised. 45 minutes later I received an email rescinding my offer. So unprofessional and petty, but I also just think they're completely delusional about American salary expectations. They're a growing company, I don't see why they're so stingy, or at least why no one figured out I was way over qualified before wasting everyones time...

      Hi, there. Thank you for sharing your feedback. The interview process can take some time as we are looking to find the very best fit for the role. The Life Story portion of the interview really allows us to open up conversation and learn more about you as a person. We encourage you to ask questions in return as well. When it comes to pay, Shopify uses salary market data to remain competitive with the current market. We maintain competitive market data by country, and where specific regions within a country have significantly different pay practises, we maintain market data specific to those areas too. I am sorry to hear that you were not offered a position. Be sure to apply again in the future if you’re interested! Again, thank you for sharing.

      Unlike any process I’ve had in my nearly 2 decades of experience. I was referred in and then sent to a recruiter who didn’t offer any advice on what to expect. She brought up compensation and only told me OTE. I always exceed my rev targets so I knew that wouldn’t be a problem but having been laid off, I wanted to know my base salary so I scheduled a 10 min meeting with her to get that info. She was condescending and acted like I didn’t listen the first time by saying “[My name] if you remember we discussed the OTE last time.” Totally gaslit me. I loved the people I spoke with though. They’re kind and funny and make the interviews conversational. I would’ve crushed this job but I think that simply because I only had a couple years of ecomm experience (even though I studied it like I was back in college for this), I wasn’t selected. Don’t listen to the “life story” advice. Just make sure you can connect the dots on your resume. Keep answers succinct & impactful because they have a huge candidate pool. This job is an 80/20 split, so the base pay (I assume) is pretty low and you have to sell to hit the 20% delta - which is a given these days, anyway. Love the company and the mission and bummed I didn’t get it but just had a bad taste in my mouth from the recruiter being hasty with me.

      I had a great interview process. Kind people, responsive recruiter, straightforward interview process! No overly complicated or trick questions, which I really appreciated. Definitely prepare for the most common questions (tell me about a time...) and have anecdotes ready for typical MSM/CSM questions.
