4-Stage Interview Process Stage 1 - Telephone Interview Brief run-through about myself and things that were on my CV. Asked what I knew about recruitment and the company as well as times where I'd had to work towards targets. Was then invited to a second face-to-face interview with the internal recruiter. Stage 2 - Face-to-face Interview Lasted around an hour. Again went through parts of my CV and was asked several questions (such as why recruitment, why Hays, tell me a time when...). I was told what a basic day would be like working there. Was also given some scenarios that you could face whilst working for the company but they want to see how you would react. Make sure that you do your research as they want to see how much you are willing to learn and if you have the potential to be part of such a challenging sector. (Look at their values as these are important). I was invited to the assessment which I had to travel to. Stage 3 - Assessment Day This lasted 3 hours and was split into 4 separate activities. Word of warning this was probably the most challenging part of the process. I was in a group of 8. 1) An in depth look in Hays and more about what it's like to work there. There is a presentation and a few short videos, make notes as you might be asked a question on something you've seen, be prepared to expand on your answer in the form of a scenario they may give you. We were then given a USP of the company and asked to sell this the rest of the group as well as introducing ourselves. 2) A mock-phone call to a potential client. You were given a pack on the company and then had to engage in a role-play where they would throw unexpected curveballs. I personally found this challenging as each person was given something completely different. Just remain calm and professional as they are just wanting you to experience what it's like from day-to-day. 3)You were then given 3 potential CVs for the role advertised and had to sell a candidate to the client. Somethings may have been missing but you have to be confident that the person is right for the company. Whilst one half did this, the second half went on a tour of the office and we were able to ask questions and shown how targets are displayed and rewarded. It was very insightful and was nice to talk to other employees. Remember that they don't want to catch you out they just want to see how you're able to take the information they give you and work through the day. It's very clear that they're about progression. Again, values are very important as well as their USPs so make sure you do your research, they're willing to invest in you if you show a willingness to do the same. I received a phone call that same afternoon where I spoke about my experience that day and received some very helpful feedback, and was surprisingly invited back for a final interview with the directing manager and senior manager Stage 4 - Interview with Directing Manager and Senior Manager Lasted approx. an hour. This was more of a personal interview as they're trying to see where you'd fit best if you were successful. They again went through my CV briefly then asked me what skills would support me within my first few months and how I might be challenged, then was asked to talk about myself. I enjoyed the final interview as you were able to really talk about what you may have learnt throughout the process and ask questions to members in positions of seniority. I receive a phone call a few days later offering me a position. A very well structured process and clearly a strong team of employees, I look forward to starting!

Hiring manager was very helpful - I felt prepared going into the interview. I did feel that by the end of the process I wasn't 100% sure why I wasn't selected.

I applied for this position on LinkedIn and had a screening phone call with the recruiter who posted the job listing. After the initial phone screening, I was invited to an in-person interview with the same person. This interview lasted about 45 minutes and we just went through my work experience, what I know about recruitment as a career and a roleplay scenario where I had to call a client (a business) and try to convince them to go with me as a recruiter. I wasn't prepared for this and didn't do very well, but luckily I was told I wasn't expected to do very well in this part. I was invited then to an assessment centre stage, which had 6 candidates in it, myself included. During this assessment centre, we were all given a random statement and we had to argue for or against it in one minute. After presenting our arguments, we were given another roleplay scenario on a sheet of paper. We had creative license to go around and sort of remedy the problem on the piece of paper. For example, I had to call a business that hired 2 temporary workers from us last year and discuss their open positions. Unfortunately, I once again thought I did not do so well. My feedback, however, was very informative. In the second roleplay scenario - picking one CV out of three to present to a client and sell the candidate, essentially - I took the previous feedback on board. Ask lots of open-ended questions! Fortunately, I got a call the next day and they said they were impressed with how I took on the feedback from the first roleplay and applied it in my second, and that this is what they're looking for for Trainee positions - someone who can learn quickly. I was then invited to another in-person interview to once again go over my experience, ask any questions about the role, the company and the people I was meeting - seniors in the business, directors etc. My feedback was once again glowing, saying I seemed well-prepared, personable and impressive. I was then invited to yet ANOTHER interview to meet other seniors in the business. Here, I was asked why I wanted to switch from my current career to recruitment and how my previous experience will allow me to thrive in this environment. It is CRUCIAL you show you are committed to recruitment and articulate here. Unfortunately, after such a lengthy interview process, I was not offered the job. However, I did learn a lot of things about myself and about recruitment. I am confident that I can go into my next interview well prepared and sure of my dedication to this career.
