It was a long and demanding process to be hired. There are 6-8 weeks of phone interviews, office interviews, field exercises and practical simulations. Edward Jones candidates have to be committed to even be allowed to begin the role of Financial Advisor. When I was given my final offer of employment, I needed a break!! Once I began the work I realized that the interview was a small dose of my future reality. It is a fun job, but a demanding one, as is reflected in the interviewing process.

Question 1
The part of hiring that most Edward Jones candidates struggle with is the face to face survey. During a career as an Edward Jones financial advisor, you have to be able to meet new people everyday. EDJ measures that ability during the interview process with an exercise. Candidates are given a sheet with several questions (i.e., How long have you lived in this area; What are your favorite things about the area, etc.). The object of the exercise is to measure the candidates ability to strike up a conversation with a total stranger and get a follow up phone number. The phone number is never used beyond that exercise, but it requires candidates to get out of their comfort zones. And, ultimately prepares them and sets expectations on the day to day life of a new financial advisor.

Interview process first consists of numerous dinner events, all very laid back where you get to learn more about the company and the advisors in the region, and they get to learn more about you. If you keep getting invited back to dinners, consider it progress in the interview process. Honestly, the best, most effective interview process.

it's a series of interviews with people in the office then a full-day of simulating the role of the advisor where you're receiving calls from clients and team mates as well as receiving emails. As a career-changer, this was the part of the interview phase where I realized Edward Jones wasn't the right start to my career as a financial advisor and ended up going somewhere that invested in my growth rather than a "sink or swim" type of place.

Interview process is very lengthy. 6 steps, very in depth. HR screening, in person interview, 1 year plan, day in the life role play (3 hours long) where you had to call actors who were playing clients and prospects
