We love sharing insights into the product ethos of #Etsy, and that’s why we’re particularly excited about this three-part series with the Better Product Community Podcast. Throughout these episodes, Etsy product designers and leaders Heather Campbell, Michael Hardy, Nick Volpe, and Christina Goldschmidt cover a variety of topics, from the evolving product challenges of a two-sided marketplace to how an unexpected 2020 informed a focus on frequency and enhanced customer service. Two episodes are already live, and the third will be released tomorrow. We hope you enjoy!
How is Etsy leveraging cutting edge technologies to create a better experience for users? Join us at Dublin Tech Summit on June 17th to find out! We’ll share how machine learning has enabled us to create a more curated and personalized experience for Etsy buyers, and how our experimental and cross-function approach to development influences our technical outputs. Our leaders take the stage two times: Mike Fisher for a fireside chat at 11.45am (GMT+1) and then Christina Goldschmidt, Marc Murray, Becca Hare, Raymond Flournoy, and John Davies for a panel at 2pm (GMT+1). Additionally, colleagues will be available at our booth all day. Hope to see you then!
We’re so excited to welcome Depop to the Etsy, Inc. family of brands! Depop is a community-powered marketplace to buy and sell unique fashion, with a mission to build the world’s most diverse and progressive home of fashion. Like Etsy, Depop stands for supporting creative entrepreneurs, fostering authentic human connections and making a sustainable impact. While Depop will continue to operate as a standalone marketplace when the deal closes in the coming months, we’ll work together to grow its incredible community and provide an even better experience for its millions of users. Did you hear? Etsy is hiring for dozens of new positions in Ireland! We’ve had a Dublin presence since 2013, and have grown to nearly 100 colleagues there so far. Our choice to expedite our Ireland growth is a testament to the impact and value of our existing team members. As our Global Head of Talent Acquisition, Laudine Vallarta, put it, “With a strong talent pool and a growing technology sector in Ireland, Etsy is excited to expand the Dublin team and welcome new talent and fresh perspectives.” We’re excited for what this expansion will bring.
Our engineering colleagues at Reverb have been optimizing the performance of their marketplace. How’d they do it? After increasing parallelized API calls, and pre-calculating expensive queries, the results spoke for themselves. Check out this piece written by Gabriel Morcote to learn more about the collaboration and experimentation that helped our engineers to enhance Reverb buyer and seller experiences.
We’re proud to share that our colleagues at Reverb have earned a spot on Crain's Chicago Business' 2021 list of 100 Best Places to Work in Chicago! This is a nod to the passion that’s synonymous with Reverb, where the mission is to make the world more musical and the team is genuinely excited about doing good work—not just because it’s their job, but because they care what they’re building. Did you know that Reverb, the largest online marketplace dedicated to musical instruments, is a part of Etsy? And did you know that they’re hiring? Behind every item on Etsy, there’s a person with a story. In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re sharing the stories and craftsmanship of a few of these talented sellers from Etsy's AAPI community, all of whom share their heritage through their one-of-a-kind creations. Visit the #Etsy Journal to learn—in the artists’ own words—how embracing their identities has shaped their creative journeys.
An enormous congratulations to our very own Kruti Patel Goyal, Chief Product Officer at #Etsy, for earning a spot on the Gold House A100 List! This prestigious award honors the most impactful Asian and Asian American & Pacific Islander (API) cultural figures of today, and celebrates excellence in achievement as well as eminence in activism. With the rise of anti-Asian sentiment amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and recent tragic events, this year’s A100 List is particularly critical in amplifying and celebrating the accomplishments of the API community. A round of applause for Kruti!
How can we maintain culture, collaboration, and human connection when teams can’t all be in the same room? Our CEO, Josh Silverman discussed the development of the future of work with leaders from Google Workspace and Quartz at Collision Conf Conf last week. A key point that resonated with us is that the future of work needs to be developed with remote employees top of mind. How can we evolve our conference rooms to ensure that both people in the room and on screen have equal opportunity and encouragement to provide input? When should we avoid meetings altogether? How can we better involve, and incorporate opinions of, our employees whose tasks occur predominantly offline? Thank you to Collision Conference for providing a platform for this essential conversation!
How has Etsy been able to preserve a unique and thoughtful culture throughout the past year of remote work? Like most companies, we learned a lot as we went, and applied those learnings to bolster our tried-and-true approaches. Our Chief Operations, Strategy, and People Officer Raina Moskowitz recently shared what’s worked for our workforce with Business Insider. Our main tactics include: enabling flexibility, prioritizing open communication, equipping managers with ongoing training, and continuing our long-standing commitment to diversity. "People want to work for companies where they feel supported, and who have a meaningful mission," Raina said – and we think Etsy is just that type of place.
