We had a blast partnering with award-winning pop rock band HAIM to outfit their new California music studio. Along with Reverb, we developed an inspiring place to create and collaborate, filled with stunning equipment, furniture, and handmade goods courtesy of independent sellers. Check out HAIM's new space and see which pieces you can incorporate into your own studio here.
When discussing diversity, is neurodiversity yet a component of your conversations? Our Head of Product Design, Christina Goldschmidt, recently joined Relay FM’s Presentable Podcast to share from personal experience the valuable roles that neuroatypical people can play in a team’s continued evolution and success. Christina herself is dyslexic neuroatypical with complex post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety disorder. She’s simultaneously the impactful and diligent manager of Etsy’s Product Design team. Listen in to hear Christina and Jeffrey Veen discuss how hiring and working alongside people with dyslexia or mental health issues can enhance the overall effectiveness of your team, be it within Design or any other department.
It’s the case for any growing business: as your product offering evolves, your code is continuously enhanced. Take CSS as an example. With new code being added, changed, and deployed all the time, it’s not possible to update all of the historical CSS at once. So as the application improves, and outdated CSS no longer has a place in the modern ecosystem, how exactly do you handle legacy CSS? In Reverb’s latest blog post, our colleague and Software Engineer Matthew Jaffe tackles that very issue. Check it out here!

Improving the developer experience is a major goal for many engineering teams. One of the initiatives to improve DevX is actively tracking, measuring, and finding avenues to reduce labor-intensive incidents. An example? Identifying a solution for alert storms, when numerous alerts are triggered by the same underlying root cause. Kishore Yekkanti, Engineering Manager with Runtime SRE & Traffic team at Etsy, spoke at the PagerDuty Summit about our journey in identifying and improving this specific area of the Developer experience. Last week, our CEO Josh Silverman joined Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House for a discussion on the importance of paid family and caregiver leave. Etsy has been a long-time leader in the U.S. when it comes to paid family leave, offering some of the most inclusive policies in the country. We’re thrilled to be at the forefront of a national dialogue on how to spark others – in both the private and public sectors – to join our efforts and bring more support to families when they need it most, and were honored to be joined by Gap, Patagonia, Airbnb, Seventh Generation, Microsoft, and Chobani. Interested to learn more about why Etsy believes strong caregiver policies are good for business? Read Josh’s blog post here.
India is continuing to experience a second wave of COVID-19. In an effort to help support organizations that are working with local partners to deliver critical support, Etsy has donated $50K USD to GiveIndia and Give2Asia, two organizations that are helping to facilitate the distribution of pressing aid, medical supplies, food staples, and protective equipment. Over $20K USD has also been distributed to their ongoing efforts through employee donations. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected, particularly our friends, families, and colleagues who are located there. We hope that our contributions to GiveIndia and the Give2Asia will provide support and relief to where it’s most needed.
Strong paid leave policies are crucial. They encourage retention, combat burnout, prioritize wellbeing and in the end, they allow both employees and businesses to thrive. We’ve seen the positive impact of generous policies firsthand here at Etsy, and we are honored to be among the 70 companies on National Partnership for Women & Families’ list of organizations that are #LeadingonLeave. See the full list here.
