      Entretien

I received a call from HR within 24 hours of submitting my resume for the position to schedule an interview. After filling out the application and waiver form, I was informed I needed to take 4 online tests to be completed prior to the interview. I was told to arrive for the interview 20 minutes early to take 2 more tests, then I waited about 15 minutes for the 1 hour interview, which contained some pretty standard questions.

The process was the biggest joke I’ve ever experienced in my career in the Distribution and Cargo industry (over 30 yrs) and I have worked for a few very large companies. To begin with, I applied for the “Senior Operations Manager” position, while in the interview the HR Manager tells me that there is no Sr Ops Mgr available, he stated that it was a Distribution Manager role “regardless of what it says online” (then why not just delete the Sr Ops Mgr job on their website????) The job I applied for was on their website for almost a year and yet they can’t find a suitable candidate in the Greater Toronto Area?? Very telling point. Uline’s only care and concern with potential candidates is how you fair on the 6 “Myers/Briggs”aptitude tests you are required to complete (4 if you are selected by HR and another 2 when you interview with them = 6 total), your experience means “very” little to them, what they are looking for are people who follow their “militant” structure that they have created, they don’t want people using their brains, they don’t want leaders, they want nothing more than foot soldiers. Before applying I read numerous reviews on this site about Uline’s process which was categorized as “robotic”, at the time I found that hard to believe but I was completely wrong, while engaging with a handful of Uline employees (reception and HR) they did function like robots, sadly. I do believe I did well in the interview with the HR Manager, he seemed impressed with my resume, my experience and me as a candidate so when I was turned down to go further in the process I was confident that I obviously didn’t meet their testing requirements. It also sounds as if they lost out on a lot of very good candidates with a wealth of knowledge and experience by reading through the comments sections in ALL categories.... Oh well, their loss, best of luck to them.

      Question 1

How do you deal with an underperforming manager that has reported to you? When are you available to start if you are selected for the position?
