Found job posting and applied through LinkedIn. Whole process took about 4-6 weeks. I was contacted by recruiter through email, then a phone call. After confirming that I was a real person :-) the recruiter set up a technical phone screen with a developer on the team I would work with. Which I liked, since I would be asked "real" questions instead of pre-packaged technical questions. Of course, there were some of those, but just to ascertain that I had a good understanding of what I claimed to know. I enjoyed the call, even though I think I could have done better. In fact, I didn't expect them to move forward with me. But about 10 days later, the recruiter contacted me and asked to set up an onsite interview. I flew out from Toronto. Everything was very well handled by the recruiter, and the travel coordinator at Sony. Interviewing was pretty much all day, but I found that it flew by. I actually really enjoyed the process, and meeting everyone on the team. Which was another nice aspect; that I was interviewed by the team (and manager) of the team I would work with. The morning interview was with the team I would work with, then lunch with the team, then in the afternoon, a second team interviewed me - I assume to be a "sober second look" interview. Then, with a senior manager, and finally with the recruiter. I enjoyed the interviews, even though I had a "brain cramp" during the morning interview (with the team). Everyone was professional and nice to talk with. Sony has a new building, and the facilities seem really nice. But at the end of the day it's the people you work with that matter the most. In the end, I didn't get an offer. Which didn't surprise me too much, but I was disappointed. I thought I was a good fit, but maybe not a "great" fit. I think I was probably about 80-90% there. And in this case they needed to find someone who was 100%. My advice would be to review what you know. Do not try to pretend to be an expert in something you are not an expert in. In the end, it comes down to personality and how well you "fit" into what they are looking for.
