I did apply to the Woodbridge Va location. When I went into the store to ask about the job I was told that spot is not open in this store we just post that to get applications for other locations. I did get a call 3 weeks later from another store for a lower position. I did decide to take that interview. The interview was very basic. The questions were for the most part job related. But also some non related. I was told yes it is a lower position but I would be doing more that an assistant manager but at a lower pay. I still had interest in the job. What I had a problem with is I did drive one way over an hour an interview. And was told I would get a call in the next few days. That did not happen. And in calling for information I never got to the person I needed to speak to.

Manager seemed very unprepared and unprofessional. He stated multiple times that the assistant manager is there to run the business for him and “do everything I don’t want to do” and that he’s just there to “look pretty and answer to the district manager”. He wasn’t sure what I was interviewing for, then tried to talk me down to a lower position cause, “most external candidates don’t work out if they start higher.” While this can be true it just makes it sound like they like to treat their employees bad and get away with it cause they’ve dealt with it already. He also talked about being out of the business for 6 months this year so far and how he was planning another 2 months. He said his assistant manager should handle all coaching and staff development and he should only have to do anything if it involves firing them. All around seemed very unprofessional.

How would I handle performance managing associates
Completed online survey and submitted resume. then had a few in person interviews; about 2 or 3 and a facility tour to get a better idea of what the role looks like.
It was with the franchise owner- straightforward but should be more detailed on the intensity and requirements for an assistant manager doing management tasks. There are way more responsibilities on the assistant that does not get compensated appropriately.
