      Entretien

Applied online & received an interview invite the next day via e-mail - they were happy to hear I had a few years of experience with a multiline phone. I had a phone interview for basic questions regarding my Customer Service work experience & what draws me to Nordstrom. I was invited for a second interview with the Service Experience Manager. The manager was very friendly & understanding - the interview was to get a feel of my work goals, experience, & values. Nothing out of the ordinary. She showed me around the office & introduced me to the full-time Communications Operator. Everyone seemed happy to work there, & I noticed there isn't a lot going on in the back offices - it's mostly about the sales floor, so it isn't a large back environment. I received an e-mail that night confirming a background check then was called three days later to be offered the position!

      Entretien

The interview process was a three step process. I had a phone screening, online test, and an in person interview. The in person interview took place at Nordstrom in the Tysons Corner call center. I meet with both managers and got to observe the actual job in itself for about 10 minutes.

      Entretien

Applied online for posting found on Indeed.com for Switchboard Communications. Was called 2 days later and given a very brief phone interview consisting of questions such as "Describe a time you did something that was not in your job description." "Tell me about a time that you helped a co-worker without being asked." The interviewer said that the position had a varying schedule and asked if that would be a problem. She then said she would like to bring me in to meet but first I was to fill out an online background check which consisted of past employers, addresses, references. Once I had completed that I was to call her and tell her it had been submitted. Over the next two weeks I checked in with my references and none of them had heard from Nordstrom. I called HR the following Monday and spoke with a different person who said "usually we jump right on that. Can you come in this week?" and we agreed on Wed. The office is on the 3rd floor of the store and I was warmly greeted by a Customer Service rep. At a few minutes past the appointed time a young lady came out and introduced herself and escorted me back to a very small room with a circular table and 4 chairs - and no room for anything else. She invited me to sit, she sat down and asked me 2-3 similar behavioral questions, then said "I have the wrong questions" and said the position had been filled. "What other positions would you be MORE successful at here at Nordstrom?" I said "More successful? I would be AS successful in HR." She excused herself from the room. She returned several minutes later and said "I'm not the person to interview for an HR position" and asked if I had any questions. I did. Including how long she had been with the company (10 years, starting in cosmetics,) and why the position was open and what they were looking for. She said the previous person left abruptly (I am thinking that may have been the woman who initially had contacted me) and when I asked were she had gone, perhaps to another department, she said "We don't divulge that information." She said they were looking for "a good fit" and I asked her how she thought I would fit in - she replied "Great." She stood up, thanked me for coming in and I was shooed out the door. The entire interview, including her leaving the room, was 17 minutes. And I had to pay for parking. I came home, mailed off a thank you note, and she called the next day - much more cheerful than she had been on the interview day, to say the position was filled and I should look on line for other opportunities in the area. It was certainly one of the weirdest interview experiences and I got to thinking that perhaps the quick interview was due to my age - I'm early 50's.
