      Entretien

The process went like this: First was the questionnaire. I filled that out and sent it in. Then I had an online assessment test. This involved logic and math based questions. I found some of these questions very difficult. The logic questions were similar to this: John earns more than Susan, Susan earns less than Henry, Susan earns more than Jim. John earns less than Henry. Who earns the most? For the math questions you need to know percentages. The math questions were similar to this: The staff at a company went from 40 to 29 employees. What is the percent decrease in staff? After successfully passing the online assessment I had a typical 30 minute phone interview. That’s when we had planned for a 4 hour in-person interview. The interview consisted of a 30 minute session with HR explaining benefits and such. Then I had my first 45 min interview with 2 people. After that I had a 30 minute excel and logic assessment. The question had 3 different companies that had premium costs and claims for the last 10 years. It asked me to calculate loss ratios for each year and for each company in excel. It also asked what company you would invest in and why and if you saw any patterns or trends. It also said to use charts or tables when needed. I would have created a pivot table but I ran out of time. After that I had another 45 minute interview with 1 person. This interview didn’t go as well as the others. He immediate thought I was looking to become a supervisor within 6 months because of my previous experience with managing others. That interview consisted of him telling me what I was looking for and me explaining that it wasn’t. After that I went to a paid 1 hour lunch with 3 employees. This was pretty laid back since they were not supervisors. But they had reviewed my resume so we talked about my background and I asked about how they felt about Geico. From there I had a 45 min interview with 2 people. One guy was from the first interview. They mostly asked me to tell them my thought process during the excel assessment. Ultimately, I gladly did not get a job offer. I would have declined if offered for the reasons below. I’ll breakdown what I learned during the process with Pros and Cons: Pros: -They’ll willing to train coding to people that don’t have much experience with it. -They’ve improved the training program for newcomers. -When it comes to profit sharing you don’t need a full year at the company. Starting right before January would be the best time to get in. -Car insurance isn’t going anywhere, it’s a stable industry. -Ok place to start work if you’re straight out of school. Cons: -They showed me where I would be working and my soul died a little. Yellowed cubical farm from the decades of fluorescent lighting. I’ve worked in offices before but this place appeared to be an abyss for a soul crushing career job in car insurance. -You are not eligible for heath benefits for 75 days!!! I’m trying to contain my rage, but this absolutely unacceptable. It was a huge red flag on how they treat and respect employees. I dismissed them immediately as a suitable employer after hearing this. The still lingering sensation of the imminent death of my soul sealed the deal. -You don’t get fully vested for 6 years. That’s quite long. Probably has to do something with it being easier to get out sooner rather than later when you’re in that abyss filled with self-pity. -Low pay. Mid 50’s for someone with a degree and 5 years experience. -No discernable career track.
