      Entretien pour Partner Content Specialist

      Entretien

After I had submitted my CV, HR of Booking.com called me and invited me to their Moscow office to take an Editing test. The preparation that they suggested (get familiar with Booking.com and check out their social networks) was not helpful at all. But thanks to Glassdoor.com, I could get a little bit familiar with the upcoming questions. I took the test split into five parts, and it took me 1,5 hours. A week after, they told me that I performed very well at the test and they wanted to follow me up with the next interview, which included a 'business case' and a Q&A. Again, a week after I had an interview with a Team Lead of Partner Content Specialists and her colleague. The preparation for a role-play took me about 30 minutes, then there was a role-play itself, where I had to convince the Partner to make improvements on his hotel's Booking.com page. The rest of the interview (about 1 hour) was dedicated to my skills and how could I be useful for Booking.com. By the end of the interview, I asked them about the package, because during all these three weeks they didn't bother to tell me about the salary bracket and, obviously, it was already a right time to ask this question. The Team Lead told me that they were not supposed to discuss this information yet and she said I could ask about that during my next (!) interview. It is ridiculous and very unprofessional for a company like Booking.com. They take your time (more than a month), get you all excited about the job and then refuse to tell you what salary you are actually going to expect for this job, they did not even drop a hint. A week after the interview, HR called me and said that my English speaking skills very great and they appreciated my enthusiasm, but my 'influence skills were not good enough for this job'. I also thought that statement was rather weird. Because I strongly believe that you are not born with this skill, but you can develop it through actual work, but they decided that I do not deserve a chance. To be honest, the HR lady did ask me about my suggestions to improve their hiring service. Let's hope they will do something about it. By the way, the lady working there as a Partner Content Specialist told me that they had been looking for a candidate for this position for a very long time. Now I understand why.

I applied online for this job and got an offer to come in to do an editing test 2 weeks later. The focus of this test was to determine your English writing skills and also commercial and hotel related writing skills. When asked about any preparation tips, all they suggested was to become familiar with the Booking.com website which was quite unhelpful. I'm glad that I checked Glassdoor beforehand for an idea of what was being tested. You're basically given 1.5 hours to go through 5 sections: 1. Rewrite a hotel description using the old version and some new information given by the hotel owner. Pick 1 out of 4 photos to use as the main photo and explain why you chose that. Note down what other photos are missing that customers would want to see. 2. Look at 4 customer hotel reviews and see what actions can be taken by the hotel to improve their experience and explain how you would persuade the hotel to enforce these changes. 3. Reply to an angry hotel owner who wants you to fix up incorrect information on their property listing. Note down what you would change to the listing based off the message. 4. Pick top 5 things to do in a tourist destination for their travel guide. Can research online. 5. Proofreading a paragraph - look for spelling mistakes, grammar, punctuation etc. I passed the test easily and was invited for a phone interview with a recruiter overseas. She went over questions about my past experiences, reasons for why I applied for the job and what I would do in certain scenarios. I did not proceed to the next stage (next one would be face to face interview then an offer) as I guess I didn't have as much relevant experience as some of the other candidates. Through out this entire experience they were quite vague about the salary (probably wouldn't have found out until face to face interview) so could be quite a waste of time if the salary doesn't meet your expectations in the end.

The interview process started with an initial phone call interview to determine my proficiency in French as the role required a French speaker. The next part of the interview process included a test with questions relating to the role and the company. After successfully passing that, I had an interview with the head of the regional office and the head of the department for the role I was applying for. The whole process took 2 weeks in all. The office is great and the people were friendly.

4 stages - a task, phone interview, interview with direct managers, coffee meeting with a team. The task was interesting - answering a few questions about Booking.com content, giving suggestions for improvement, and answering to a client's email in local language. The most interesting and unusual was the "coffee interview" - an hour with a local team; pretty laid-back, just chatting and sharing experiences. Got to know more about the organizational culture and the way the team works. The process was very fast and well-coordinated. However, I didn't accept the offer because there was a misunderstading with the salary. Even though I've expressed my expectations from the very beginning, the offered salary was lower + the HR person knew nothing about taxes in my local country, which caused the salary to be even lower. I suggest to double, even triple, check the expectations and their salary ranges for a certain position early in the interview stages.
