J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 2 mois. J'ai passé un entretien chez Amazon (Seattle, WA) en sept. 2021

      Entretien

Most disorganized interview process I've ever experienced. I didn't even get to the interview because the recruiter was so disorganized and lacked basic transparency. I had 10 different email threads by the same recruiter. Why!? There should be only 1 -- maximum, 3. This is not even including the other email threads auto-generated by their system. This made responding to emails and searching for materials extremely cumbersome. The recruiter asked me about my interest in positions I already applied for and sent me welcome emails for positions I never applied to or was interested in in the first place! Aren't you my recruiter? Shouldn't you know what positions your candidate are currently interviewing for? I applied for a fully remote SDE position and the recruiter asked me 2-3 different times (all in different email threads) if I was willing to relocate to Seattle, which I politely declined and referred to my application wherein I applied for a remote position. I joined a prep call session for the interview. The details of both were communicated in an untimely matter. My eyes confusingly darted across the screen, looking at two other people on the call. Who are these people?? I was expecting a 1-on-1 with my recruiter. Is this a 3-on-1 interview? Did I join the right meeting? Was I supposed to study or prepare for something important? But I noticed the other two individuals looked as confused as I did. Long story short, because of time constraints, candidates have to be lumped together in one prep call. This was not communicated AT ALL until another candidate ASKED about the two strangers on the call approximately 5 minutes into the call. This was more than adequate time to brief us on the matter. The situation was explained after the so-called "prep" was given by the recruiter. The "prep" gave almost no additional insight into the interview process, so I had tons of questions. At the top of my list, was whether this position is fully remote. They said, "no." I told them that I specifically applied for a remote position and replied to one of the 3 email threads and stated I am NOT willing to relocate. Without apologizing for wasting my time (2 months), they dismissed me with a unempatehic, "Well, I'll have to take you off." I waited a few seconds to give them more time to maybe explain the miscommunication or location requirement changes. Even a half-hearted apology would have been decent. Nope, just silence. I exited the call without saying another word. I then forwarded to the recruiter the email I sent 4 weeks ago to show that I had in fact provided my location preferences way in advance. I already had a bad feeling about Amazon (partly due to what I've read on Glassdoor and partly my experience leading up to the prep call), but I never thought it would turn out this horrible. I understand mistakes happen and we're all human at the end of the day, but the quality bar has to be raised much higher. It's become increasingly clear why Amazon is not quite considered to be in the league of Google and Apple in the circles of software engineers.

Surprisingly easy — I expected tougher questions, but the coding round felt more like a warm-up. The main challenge was a DSA problem about counting islands in a 2D grid, which led to a discussion on DFS versus BFS and handling large grids. Funny enough, I had revisited that exact type of question while prepping on PracHub, which made me feel more confident. The interview wrapped up with a behavioral round, and I accepted an offer, but ultimately decided to decline it for another opportunity. Overall, it was a smooth experience.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

Number of Islands — given a 2D grid of '1's (land) and '0's (water), count the number of connected islands. Walk through DFS vs BFS, and discuss how to avoid revisiting cells (in-place mutation vs visited set) and what changes if the grid is huge and must stream from disk.

It started with an OA, and then after a few weeks, I got invited to four rounds of interviews: technical and behavioral at 3 of the 4, and behavioral only at one.
