A friend of mine working at Amazon referred me to this position. About a week later, I received an email from a recruiter wanting to set up some time to discuss my background and my interest in working with Amazon. The recruiter and I spoke for about 35 minutes and it was mostly a conversation. He was friendly and we spoke about weather and other stuff besides work. Then he asked me some basic questions such as geography preference, visa/immigration status, Excel skills, etc. He asked a few behavioral based questions (strengths, time you dealt with a difficult customer, etc.) He told me I should hear back within a few days and the next step, if I moved on, would be a phone interview with someone from the team.
Update - 2nd round with manager. Interview lasted about 35 minutes and was asked the following questions:
1. Walk me through you resume/give me your background.
2. Do you have any Excel/SQL experience?
3. Have you had leadership experience or have direct reports in the past?
4. Tell me about your experience (asked about specific role on resume).
5. Tell me about a time you went above and beyond for a customer.
6. Tell me about a complex problem you faced but had a simple solution.
