      Entretien

Everything started when a HR coordinator headhunted me in early September. It was for a senior mngt position in Luxembourg. The HR proposed me a 30 min phone interview, I had to present my background and answer 1 leadership question (see questions below). Then I had to prepare my CV and send it to a private link she shared with me. The HR presented my profile to a group of executives and let them choose a job for me. Unfortunately they guided me toward a job description that didn't fit. I couldn't refuse the interview with the hiring manager so I took it anyway Every interview in the hiring process is the same. It lasts 45 min. They ask you to present , then you have to answer two leadership questions, then you have 5 min to ask your questions. Prepare your questions in advance and prioritize because it's short! I passed the first interview but then I kindly said that the proposed job is not for me. So the HR coordinator asked me to pick jobs I wanted on amazon.jobs at luxembourg and send it to her. Basically she said Yes/No to each of my propositions. I could pretend only to have a level 6 job (only HR see the level, not you) on which avg salary is 90+30 K€. That why HR filtered. When we found the right opp, the HR contacted the Hiring Manager (HM) to propose my CV. HM was ok to have with me an interview. Again same interview process. I passed. Eventually I entered in the last step of the hiring process : the panel. To prepare the panel, I had to complete a numerical reasoning test (SHL) and to write a 2 pages essay within 5 days. The panel set-up on a same business day. So you have to take a day off. During that day, I had 5 interviews in a row with 4 different managers + HM again. Again same kind of interview. I didn't pass the panel and did not received a proposal. However here is my humble advice for you reader : take your time to schedule the interviews, take 1 or 2 days off before the panel to prepare because it's tough. During the panel, you have an avg of 15 min break between each interview, don't revise, relax instead. Prepare at least 10 stories to tell, Respect the STAR method in your stories, Insert data everywhere, Ask yourself the 5 WHY to be sure your stories are logical enough. Anticipate follow-up questions on stories, you will have data questions, if you don't know the answer just improvise. On my opinion : I didn't like the hiring experience at amazon. It is long, cold and dehumanized. My process lasted 3 month from first exchanges to the final answer. 5 min questions for a candidate, it seemed one way interviews. Panel is very intense. Last but not least : you wont never have any feedback during and after the process. So you can't know why you were good or not.

I will split this review into 2 sections pertaining to my preparation process and interview process. PREPARATION: First, I prepared by reaching out to my OCM (Office of Career Management) part of my MBA program. They reached out to the alumni that worked in the specific job and connected me with them. This was essential to my process and helped me a lot as it helped me get an inside look of the interviewers thought process before the interview. I then prepared a document to save and answer any interview question that I could find from resources, such as Glass Door, pertaining to typical Amazon behavioral interview questions. I also watched interview related YouTube videos that helped me prepare. Since Amazon is such a large company and hires a lot of people, there are a lot of these videos available. There are a few YouTube channels dedicated to the Amazon hiring process and interview preparation. I then reviewed the leadership principles and familiarized myself with them. I paired behavioral questions with these principles, and related them to my experience via the STAR format. One thing I HIGHLY suggest is practicing your responses, making them fluid and natural as part of a normal conversation. Record yourself, practice in the mirror, etc. Also, do NOT simply write down your responses and read them to the interviewer. This will get you negative points, and possibly cause them to pass on you. INTERVIEW: Total time: 3 HR, 15 Min. 4 interview, 45 min long, 15 min. break after 2nd interview. Amazon is moving towards online interview process. There are not doing as much on-campus interviews or flying candidates out to the location for in-person interviews. My Amazon interview was a total of FOUR interviews. Each of these interviews lasted for 45 minutes. Amazon will try to do all 4 of these interviews within 1 day. Be prepared to commit to the interview date, and be prepared for it to take the better half of the day. Each interviewer was punctual and direct. They gave a quick introduction of themselves, asked for a quick introduction of myself, and then quickly moved into behavioral type questioning. Preparing ahead of time is essential. I HIGHLY recommend the STAR format. Amazon is very results driven. Don't focus on non-essential information. Focus on actions and results. Each interviewer will ask you for more details and challenge you during the interview. Be prepared to be challenged and have those answers ready if possible. 2 of the interviewers I had gave me hypothetical questions to get to know my thought process better and to learn what my managerial style is like. All in all, it was a great experience. If you make it to this round of interview, you will most likely do well. Amazon is selective in their candidates, and seek out very qualified individuals for positions like this. You will more than likely enjoy this interview. My preparation helped me a great deal. Do not take the preparation lightly. Finally, the questions that I included were part of my preparation and found online. They were also asked by the interviewer. Not all of the questions asked are included.

Chaotic process. Initial recruiter screen by email and simulation had quick turnaround but had to follow up to schedule hiring manager interview when Amazon promised to reach out within 2 business days. Then they ignored my scheduling request by scheduling in the wrong time zone! I withdrew from consideration.
