      Entretien

For the SDE position I was contacted by a recruiter. I completed an online assessment with 2 programming questions and then had a phone screening with the recruiter which was a few basic data structure and CS questions. I was notified that they wanted me to come onsite for an interview. The interview was 4 rounds, 3 white board programming questions + some behavioral (one interviewer didn't know my language and the features/syntax which was difficult to deal with), the other was entirely behavioral. Overall I think I did well, confident with 2/3 programming questions (the one interviewer threw me off, kept asking about basic language features which I was happy to answer but took from my focus and cryptic comments), and did well with the behavioral. Unfortunately my prep. was not great, 1 week between phone interview and onsite interview, 2 weeks from initial contact + working full time and other commitments. I was told they were proceeding with other candidates. I was then contacted again for a GIS Manager position. For this position I had 3 phone interviews and was invited for another onsite. I was called by a recruiter for a prep call where she ran me through some common questions, etc and negotiated a salary with me?!? What?? This time it was 6 rounds. Unfortunately, the guests in the room next to me at the hotel I was put up in decided to have a party the night before, needless to say I had maybe 3 hours sleep which was far from ideal, copious amounts of coffee the next morning made things worse. The interviews were fine, EXTREMELY repetitive, tell me a time when..... Suggestion - get to know me as a person maybe, not a robot whose been told to memorize principles and examples "of times when". By 4pm my last interview was with the hiring manager, by this point my patience was low and him being 10 mins later to the interview and having being interviewed twice already by this manager I was hoping for a bit of variety in the interview questions - maybe something more personable and laid back.. I was wrong. I received a call a few days later. We were impressed by you, we don't think you're the right fit for this position but you are for Amazon so we think you'd be better suited to an SDE role... Hmm, here we go again? I wondered how much attention was being paid to this. After being referred to a tech recruiter via email, I then received a call shortly after, apologizing that we couldn't proceed because I had already interviewed for an SDE position 1-2 months earlier. Overall I was exhausted with the Amazon process. I took 2 trips to Seattle, used a large amount of time off for the travel and interviews + the personal time for studying. Amazon seemed like a decent opportunity and I was interested in the move to Seattle. The end result was disappointing, I think I could have done great things for the company in either role, but I guess its their loss. Thankfully I received another offer 2 days after the rejection.
