One of the most common mental benefits of exercise is stress relief. Exercise also increases concentrations of a chemical called norepinephrine that can moderate the brain’s response to stress. Working out can reduce stress and boost the body’s ability to deal with existing mental tension. Exercise releases endorphins which create feelings of happiness and euphoria. Studies have shown that exercise can even alleviate symptoms among the clinically depressed. In some cases, exercise can be just as effective as antidepressant pills in treating depression. In this mechanical world where people are running after material pleasures and inviting stress, a short morning walk can do wonders in curtailing the level of stress in them. On a very basic level, physical fitness can boost self-esteem and improve self-image. Once you start and maintain the specific physical exercise, you can never go back. Your body will crave this healthy "drug," which will stick with you for the rest of your life, improving it in many aspects. Time spent for physical exercises is never lost.
June packs a lot of power of black history and culture, especially this year... it's a true "Remember & Rise" moment. Beyond Juneteenth Day, a celebration recognizing the actual and long overdue implementation of the Emancipation Proclamation — a US government document liberating Africans from enslavement — June marks the significance of two other meaningful commemorations: the Black Wall Street Massacre's 100th Anniversary and Black Music Month. The first Juneteenth celebration took place in Texas where formerly enslaved people celebrated in public their newfound freedom with song, dance, parades, and fellowship. This tradition also continues today with some of the same festivities celebrated worldwide. The most important things that learners can do is to be engaged and communicative. Students should check their online class often, post frequently to show their presence to the faculty and fellow classmates, and ask questions about their needs or for clarity. If there are live sessions being delivered by Zoom, or similar platforms, they should join the sessions as scheduled and be an active contributor in the chat and discussion. Here are two resources that you may find useful: The Online Learning Consortium (a good resource for students and faculty) Learning to Learn Online (book)
Here are a few tips for handling the most common workplace situations new IT professionals struggle with. 1) A colleague not pulling their weight - Chances are you have probably dealt with this in school, and unfortunately it is a reality in the workplace as well. The best practice is to address this issue early while being both direct and empathetic. 2) A client/coworker has unrealistic expectations – Unreasonable expectations typically stem from a lack of understanding. Do your best to see the project from their perspective, and politely educate them on barriers they may not be aware of. 3) You disagree with a supervisor’s decision – Disagreeing with a coworker can be challenging, however, you should not always keep your opinion to yourself, especially if you have information that may help the company or team. Make sure to address your concerns respectfully and understand your boss may ultimately disagree. Ultimately, by being direct, respectful, and empathetic with others, you will be able to productively collaborate to overcome any workplace situation.

From career advancement to better relationships, developing strong communication skills is a win-win in professional and personal life. Additionally, because confidence and active participation create a very positive impression in an interview and on the job, here are a few tips to help your sharpen your communication skills: 1.) Ask Questions – Undoubtedly you won’t understand everything. Don’t look it up later, ask for clarification. 2.) Participate – In meetings, informal or formal, try not to be just a spectator – you can do that in school, not work – be an active participant. For instance, practice talking for 60-90 seconds about a status update. 3.) Take Initiative to Present – If you’ve done something that’s interesting or worthy of note, volunteer to deliver a presentation. The more times you do it, the better you get. You learn to anticipate the questions people might have and prepare accordingly. 4.) Practice Makes Perfect – Join or create a speech club (like Toastmasters International) within your company, to practice and work on your communication skills. Good luck!
