💡VGW EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT 💡 Meet Gabriel, an Engineering Manager here at VGW. Starting out in the media industry, he shares his transition to software engineering and his tips for anyone aspiring to become one. “Hello! My name is Gabriel, and I am an Engineering Manager at VGW. I come from a small town in Uruguay and began my career as a presenter and audio technician in the media industry, before transitioning into software engineering over 15 years ago. Nine years ago I decided to move to Australia to take the next challenge in my life and career. I now lead a talented, cross-functional team, supporting their growth and success at making an impact within VGW and our industry. The best part about being an Engineering Manager is helping people develop and make an impact. My job feels complete when the team can deliver independently and spread their influence across the company. If you love enabling growth and driving change, this role is for you. It’s not easy—you need to balance being technical with trusting and delegating—but it’s incredibly rewarding. My advice to aspiring Engineering Managers would be to focus on building relationships, fostering communication, and empowering your team. Support them until they can take the lead themselves. Stay collaborative and keep your technical skills sharp to maximise your impact - enjoy the journey! Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, camping, playing the accordion, and climbing—activities that keep me inspired and active.”

Over her six years at VGW, team member Sonja has transitioned from social media guru with minimal knowledge of the online social games industry, to heading up the programmatic team. Using technology to advertise on the web, programmatic is a division of marketing that Sonja has developed from the ground up. Thanks to a supportive learning and development framework within the broader team, Sonja was able to hone her skills and create a new team dedicated to deep diving into numbers and strategies. “VGW has given me some of the best tools in the market, so that I can be certified in just about any tech that could help me improve my work,” she says. Sonja explains she came from an agency background, which was extremely busy and didn't allow a lot of time for her to process or deep dive into many areas. “I feel that at VGW I am seen and given the opportunity to be a little creative with the work I do. Thank you for being open to trying something new and letting me build on success with you VGW.”
