11 Sentara hospitals earned “A” grades for outstanding social responsibility, according to the Lown Institute Hospitals Index. 🏆 Sentara Albemarle Medical Center Sentara CarePlex Hospital Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital Sentara Leigh Hospital Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center Sentara Obici Hospital Sentara RMH Medical Center Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center The Index looks at more than 50 measures, including health equity, clinical outcomes, and patient safety. Additionally, four of our hospitals earned a spot on the Index's Honor Roll — Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, and Sentara RMH Medical Center. Out of nearly 3,600 hospitals evaluated nationally, only 160 earned this top distinction. We could not be prouder to be recognized for providing exceptional care to our patients and communities!

This recognition reflects our commitment to inclusive, patient-centered care, including non-discrimination policies, team member training, inclusive patient services, and ongoing community engagement that supports LGBTQ+ patients and families. During Pride Month, this honor is a meaningful reminder of the work we continue to do to ensure every patient feels respected, safe, and supported.
Sentara is now offering a paid military leave benefit to better support our colleagues who serve. Eligible full-time and part-time colleagues can receive up to 30 days of paid leave each year for active-duty service, training, drills, National Guard duty, and other military responsibilities. In a region deeply connected to the military community, we are proud to support those who serve in dual roles to support our country and our local communities every day.

Eight Sentara hospitals earned four stars or higher in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services 2026 hospital ratings, with three hospitals receiving the highest possible five-star designation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Only 12% of hospitals nationwide achieved five stars, and only 29.8% earned four stars. But what do these ratings mean? They help patients compare hospitals using objective measures like quality outcomes, patient safety, and patient experience.
