As Etsy continues to grow, we are excited to expand our leadership team by welcoming Kim Seymour as our Chief Human Resources Officer! Kim jumped right in this week, joining our CEO, Josh Silverman for a fireside chat where she shared her career journey and leadership philosophy with the Etsy employees around the world. “Before every interaction, I think a lot about my INTENTION with that person. What exactly do I want them to walk away from me thinking; feeling; knowing; doing; saying? This has really helped me grow as a leader over the years.” Kim comes to Etsy with more than two decades of experience and will help us continue to focus on leadership, grow our global workforce, build on our equitable and inclusive culture, and shape our innovative approach to future work. Interested in learning more about Kim and her career? You can find that here!
Thank you JUST Capital for recognizing us as a leading company for women in the workplace and as an organization shifting norms for paid parental and caregiver leave in 2022. At Etsy, we offer some of the most inclusive policies in the US designed to cultivate a supportive workplace where our community can show up with their fullest selves each day. We’re proud to have been included among companies who commit to becoming better advocates for gender diversity and pay equity.
With more than 100 million listings from sellers around the world, Etsy leverages our recommendations platform to help our buyers discover unique items. In this Code as Craft post, Staff Software Engineer Cédric Blondeau covers how our recommendations architecture has evolved over the years, and how we designed a flexible and scalable platform that lets Etsy product teams offer buyers personalized and real-time recommendations.
Our very own Chelsea Mozen, Senior Director of Impact & Sustainability, spoke to Fortune about her exciting career trajectory from grass roots activist to corporate change agent. Chelsea and her team spend every working day helping Etsy maintain a more sustainable business -- from assisting in offsetting the impact of shipping and packaging of the transactions made on Etsy.com, to setting the Etsy House of Brand's ambitious goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 -- while advocating for industry-wide change to move ecommerce forward.
Making sales is more critical than ever for Etsy’s Ukraine-based sellers, and many have pivoted to create and list digital items – from printable art to embroidery patterns – as a means to generate income. We know that many of you are looking for ways to help those affected by the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, and our Editors’ Pick page makes it easy to discover and directly support small business owners in the region.
We’re proud to be recognized on the #WomenImpactTech100 as an organization leading the charge for improving gender equality in the technology industry. Women Impact Tech's inaugural list spotlights groundbreaking companies that are furthering and prioritizing thriving organizations for women. More than 30% of Etsy's engineering team are women and marginalized genders, and we’re proud that our firm commitments to inclusion and competitive benefits help make Etsy an ideal place for women to thrive.

We’re excited to share that Rachana Kumar, Etsy’s Managing Director of Mexico and VP of Engineering, was recently included in Chief in Tech's list of 100 Women In Tech Leaders to Watch in 2022! WomenTech Network shares that in 2021, women only held about 21% of the leadership positions in tech and only 14% of the software engineering positions. Be it Rachana’s contributions to the continued evolution of #Etsy’s products, or her involvement in standing up our Mexico office, she has demonstrated her impact in countless ways. We’re hopeful that her inclusion in this list encourages other women to join – and make waves within – the technology industry. See the full list of inspirational leaders here.
Our thoughts are with everyone impacted in the Ukraine region, especially Etsy sellers and buyers as well as family and friends of our global teams. To do our part, we've offered assistance, including canceling current balances owed by all sellers in Ukraine during this difficult time. We’re committed to standing with and supporting our community during times of distress or injustice.
Yesterday we reported our fourth quarter and year-end 2021 financial results. Our CEO, Josh Silverman, said: “Even in a world of greatly expanded choice, Etsy remained top of mind for consumers, leading to our delivery of record levels of GMS, revenue, and adjusted EBITDA in the fourth quarter. During the holiday season, our sellers — most businesses of one and insulated from widespread supply shortages or complex fulfillment processes — brought the benefits of shopping small to scale. Shoppers continue to love their experiences with Etsy and are coming back for more. Reflecting on 2021, it is fair to say that Etsy has retained much of the positive impact we’ve seen from the dramatic adoption of e-commerce following the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to gaining market share, driving excellent buyer engagement, building Etsy’s brand globally and helping our sellers grow, we continued to take care of our people, communities, and the planet.” For full results visit our investors page.
