J'ai passé un entretien chez Walmart (San Bruno, CA)
Entretien
I've interviewed with Walmart for two positions at different times (three positions actually - but for the third one they scheduled an interview and backed out the day before). My biggest observation is that the hiring process is unorganized and haphazard. I won't be applying with them ever again for multiple reasons.
(1) I applied for an assistant manager role where the recruiter called me and said that I have an interview with two different people - 30 minutes each. When the recruiter mailed me the schedule, there was just one interview with one interviewer. I didn't mind that so much - so I didn't raise any concerns. The day of the interview, the manager called me almost about 5 minutes late and then told me that we have only about 25 minutes left now. Although her calling me late is not my fault, I still thought we could get through it in 25 minutes. So I told them its okay. Every 5 minutes, the interviewer kept reminding me that "We now have 20 minutes left"...."We now have 15 minutes left"....and so on. As if it was a timed test or something. She didn't seem to be even remotely interested in what I was saying and simply seemed keen to get through this questionnaire that she probably had in front of her. She rushed me through all the answers. At the end of the interview, she asked me if I had any questions. I asked her something and her response was that she was new to the company and so she didn't know this - so I better check with the recruiter. I never heard back from Walmart about the position. Even if they don't want to pick a candidate, they should at least inform them whether they're moving ahead with their candidature or not. I followed up through email but no response whatsoever.
(2) On another occasion, I had applied for an internship - where an interview was scheduled. A few days later, it was re-scheduled. The day before the interview, it was cancelled and I was told that they're no longer hiring for the position.
(3) On a third occasion, I had applied for a managerial position. The position was an exact match for my profile and I had over 5 years of experience in exactly the area they were looking for. The recruiter was really optimistic about my candidature and spent almost 45 minutes going over my profile and explaining the expectations from the position, salary etc to me. An interview with the manager was scheduled. It went fantastically well and I was told that this was just what they were looking for but they had almost finalized an offer with another candidate and I had applied very late. So, if you had almost finalized someone and I was late, why did your recruiter schedule an interview with me? It did not make any sense to me at all.
I'm not applying with them ever again. After each interaction with them, I've always felt like they don't value candidates at all. I now work at a smaller company that treats me with way more respect.
