The initial online personality questionnaire was rather time consuming - about 30 minutes. You have to complete it with a very 'team oriented' mindset, by putting others first always and showing empathy towards others (when selecting the most appropriate options for each question) otherwise you will not get through.
Following this (if you pass the personality test) you are invited to a group assessment. In my case this consisted of attending the store (in a group of five - but 2 people didn't turn up). Behind the scenes at Waitrose was surprisingly ramshackle with broken toilets, messy locker rooms, canteen used for mass storage of other stuff, and generally in a state of neglect / disrepair - not what you would expect from the Waitrose brand.
Group assessment was just 3 of us discussing how we would respond to 5 different customer scenarios for 20 minutes. Then there was a brief 10 minute interview. I took my passport but wasn't asked to provide it. The interview questions were quite standard (below) but they did ask me about my understanding of the Waitrose group ownership scheme, which I did not have a good understanding of at the time.
