I have experience as a online ESL teacher for children in China, so I thought why not apply with VIPKID? My friend works there and has many great things to say about the company. I spent hours all week preparing for my mock 2 class. This mentor for mock 2 was acting like she did not even understand the words circle or draw a line ..I used my TPR , my whiteboard, she was there with a open mouth not saying much the entire time. Just the basic words. I tried to get her to speak in a full sentence. She would not. I was expecting this based on some of the reviews on Glassdoor. I was following the instructions on the slides , using props, bought an orange T-shirt. I am not sure why I failed. I have not received any feedback from VIPKID. The mock class mentor said I did good...so what did I do wrong ? I guess I will never know. I really think it depends on who is interviewing you. My mock 2 mentor made things very hard but she was sitting there with her mouth open the whole time, not really acting like she wanted to even talk. It was ridiculous. I missed the timing by 3 slides at the end of Mock 2 but it was because my mentor was deliberately making things difficult and not talking at all! I am very upset I really wanted to get hired with VIPKID. I tried so hard. I made notes on each slide on what to do , memorized to my best ability. I really think it depends on who interviews you in Mock 2. Maybe you will get lucky and have one that talks and not sit there with an open mouth and smiles the whole time. I don't think VIPKID discriminates on race at all . I am white and female, however,I do look racially ambiguous .
