The interview process was excessively lengthy. I have a Masters Degree in Elementary Education, but admittedly don't have experience teaching English to Chinese students. I went through 3 Skype-like interview/demos, purchased and set up all of the visual aides, went through the tutorials, and implemented the feedback. Their feedback, while accurate in areas I should improve upon, and strengths, also showed that they were looking for a very specific, narrowly-defined type of teacher. If you don't fall into this limited bracket, I don't believe you'll have success being employed here. Also, the pay is not good, relative to the level of commitment, at only $16 an hour. And I thought ground U.S. teaching paid poorly. It seems like they're hiring at a dramatic rate, but don't have hours available for teachers who have been with them a while. My first U.S. teacher/reviewer, unshaven and dressed in his best ratty t-shirt, told me he only gets 15 hours per week. And he supplements those hours with interviewing future teachers. Why hire additional teachers if your current ones are resorting to alternative avenues to make up hours? Overall, the feedback I received from the second interviewer was helpful in making me understand what comparable online ESL schools are looking for. This will help in my search for similar prospects.
