The job application is online which then goes through a screening process and is shown to the store GM by green (hire), yellow (maybe), or red (do not hire). If you are green or yellow you go through an interview process and basically find out first time whether or not you are hired.

All applications are submitted online. You upload a resume and take a personality test. The personality test just tells Staples how willing you are to bend over backwards for them. A day after I submitted my application I was called to schedule my first interview which was with the Assistant Manager. He asked some pretty basic technology questions as well as asked about previous experiences with customers. I was immediately scheduled an interview for an interview with the General manager of the store. This interview was the same as the one with the Assistant Manager. After the interview he had me take a knowledge test. It kind of reminded me of a very outdated A+ exam.

The "hardest" part was the outdated computer knowledge test.

I applied to Cortland location and heard nothing after over a month of follow-up calls. I then went to the East Syracuse location and asked to speak to a manager. When I explained the situation he promptly interviewed me, called Cortland, and proceeded to set up an interview for me directly. When I went to my second interview the sales manager was eager to ask technical questions where the other managers couldn't come up with a non-generic interview question.
