      Entretien

Very poor interview process, a 3-party interviewer reached out to me on Linkedin. Recruiter got my details, including my resume and salary expectations. I was setup for a first round interview with one of their IT Managers. The interviewer had very poor communication skills: he jumped straight into my background and kept asking, why do you want to come work for us, we have nothing going on. At no, point did he make an attempt to promote his company/work culture. The key focus of the interview was that they had nothing going on, all their IT systems are old, no budgets for big upgrades in the future, so, just a dull boring place to work in. The interviewer was almost begging me to not come work for them. The key takeaway was: why would you want to come work in a place as non-exciting as us... What was supposed to be a 'skills' interview also had a lot of personal questions interspersed in it, some of which also not appropriate ones to ask in an interview and would risk being classified as discriminatory. After the interview I politely sent a note to the recruiter that I wanted to drop out of the process as I did not seem like a fit for their culture and role.

      Entretien

I was contacted by a recruiter a week after submitting my resume. She arranged a 30-minute phone screen with herself and then a couple of days later with the hiring manager. Both phone calls went well because I was asked to meet with the hiring manager and other leaders in the organization for a 5 hr onsite interview. The Ross Stores campus in Dublin, CA is extremely nice. It's a very casual yet professional atmosphere. I had 5 separate one hour, 1 on 1 meetings, with each of my interviewers. Each person brought someone different to the table. They were very open and conversational. We discussed my technology background, the philosophy of IT within Ross, how my background would fit into the open position, the differences between the Retail industry and other industries. I thought I nailed the interview. Unfortunately, after about 5 weeks, I received a no-go email from the recruiter. It was a great team of people I met. I enjoyed the experience.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Despite not receiving an offer, we're glad you got to meet the team and engage in thoughtful dialogue about the changing tech space. We hope you kept in touch with the recruiter and some members of the IT team. There may be another position open in the future that is the perfect fit for you. Good luck in your job search!
