Awful experience. Went in on July 1st (hour drive) and they acted like they didn't know why I was there.. and the manager of the stock/replenishment department wasn't even there that day (why couldn't they have called and told me this in advance? She started calling other interviewees to have them reschedule their appointments as well, minutes before they were supposed to come in!) Anyway, they told me to reschedule and I thought.. alright I've give it another shot because this job seems like it'll be good for me. I come back in early August (after confirming my appointment with the secretary through SEVERAL phone calls) and they once again looked at me like I had two heads. Not only did they not have my name down, another man walked in and they realized they double booked. I was initially put in a room with the wrong manager, and then finally when I got into the interview with the RIGHT person this time... she was completely disconnected from me. After I answered a few questions she had to go out into the hall to ask what positions she had available and I was like... how could she not know, what kind of place is this? When she offered me an on-call position (with strange hours to boot) I was shocked... I can't even get part-time steady work anymore?!!? She acted like she was doing me a favor or something... Needless to say I went over to Jcpenney to get a job and it was a BREEZE. I'm seeking a graduate degree currently and just needed steady part-time work in the interim... Macy's needs to learn a thing or two from Jcpenney!

I did everything people said you should do. I wore a professional, yet stylish and mature, all black outfit and arrived 15 minutes early for my interview. I greeted everyone I saw in the office with a smile. To my own surprise, I felt very calm and not nervous at all. My interviewer toke me back into a room and closed the door, she had with her the application that I filled out in the website, the exact way it appears to you online. They just hit print and ask you questions based off what you gave them on the application. However, what was on top was my availability. As a full time college student, I was not available to work all day everyday, but I thought I was much more open than most students. I was free to work Monday until from 10 am to 6 pm, all day Wednesday, all day Friday, and all day weekends and holidays. She stopped my interview right there and told me my availability was too limited and that she "just didn't see anyway this could work out". She did not ask me a single question about anything else. Overall when considering applying to Macy's I have a few tips, one being: STUDENTS BEWARE. Secondly, a lot of the information on their jobs website is just untrue. For example, I applied for a position that was Morning Stock that was advertised on the website as being from 4 am to 9 am, which I could have EASILY worked into by schedule everyday of the week. But in the interview, I was told Stock Team actually works from 6:30 am to 2:00 pm and that my weekend availability was irrelevant because Stock Team rarely works weekends. Also, on the website under positions labeled "retail experience not required" pffffff no. I only applied for these positions and when my interviewer saw that I had no retail experience, she did not interview me for retail either. Thirdly, on the application when you are asked for your available work hours, SAY YOU ARE AVAILABLE ALL HOURS, EVEN IF THAT IS NOT TRUE. This is because I really do believe that unless you do this, your chance of being considered as serious applicant is basically nonexistent. Also if you get a job working at Macy's, they let your make your own schedule so if you had to plan around things, it wouldn't the most difficult thing in the world. Definitely less difficult than being unemployed! Best of luck!
