A total of two rounds of interview: a 20 min video interview with the HR, and later a 1 hr video interview with 3 of the engineers. One of the engineers was the hiring manager for this position, the other was also a manager but not the hiring manager for the position, and the last one was their boss. I had very negative experience with the 2nd round of interview. First of all, no one turned on their camera (even the HR person!). That was very off-putting. The engineer who was not the hiring manager for this position kept saying this is a fast-paced job with lots of projects that they don't have the labor for. (I think he mentioned the work 'fast-paced' a total of 7 times). This engineer talked the most during my interview. The hiring manager only asked 1 question: why is your GPA so low? That was very shocking as my GPA is 3.85 on a scale of 4!!! If that is their attitude towards their employee, no wonder that they have so many project and they are unable to find new hires.

The interview process for a Process Engineer at ASM in Leuven felt quite structured and professional overall. It started with an initial screening where the recruiter asked about my background, motivation, and why I was interested in working in semiconductor process engineering. That was followed by one or two technical interviews with members of the team, where they really dug into my knowledge of thin‑film processes, deposition tools, and how I’d approach troubleshooting in a fab environment. Later on, there was a more in‑depth discussion with the hiring manager and another senior engineer, which felt more like a conversation about problem‑solving, safety, and continuous improvement than just a classic Q&A. At one point I was asked to walk through a past project, which I thought was a great way for them to see how I analyze data, optimize processes, and collaborate with others. Overall, the process felt thorough but fair, and it gave me a clear sense that ASM in Leuven values both technical depth and the ability to work in a team.
