Avantages

Great people, good benefits. I really enjoyed the job I did as it was quite interesting and unique role at eBay.

Inconvénients

The feeling of big brother is watching you was terrible. As a Team Leader and a coach it was worse as you had to treat your team as kids who had to be disciplined rather than treating them as adults. Also the TDO (stands for Temporary Development Opportunity) or Gig process is very hit and miss. The idea is to allow people to work in a role on a temporary basis helping them build the skills necessary to take forward if the role became permanent. I had 4 of these opportunities in my time and 2 were fantastic where the manager kept close to me, kept me regularly updated through feedback and made the experience pleasant. Then I had 2 where I was literally thrown into the role with no guidance whatsoever and little to no support from the manager creating a very frustrating experience. If you are a current or future employee and thinking of applying for a Gig you should talk to the hiring manager to understand how they will support you if you go for the role.

It is equivalent to winning the lottery for a dream job.

Inconvénients

Sunday work can be challenging- due to daycare challenges, but ebay supports work/life balance so its not really a con

Avantages

Relaxing culture. family first. Stock performance is generally good for the recent two years and huge benefit if you're eligible for ESPP. Stable product with large customer base means you get opportunity to work on project with real impact.

Inconvénients

1. Blind push for AI and leadership expect unrealistic efficiency improvement 2. Layoff every year in Feb (2024, 2025, 2026) and sometimes can feel the tension in team 3. Legacy tech stack with isolated and fragile infrastructure. Developer friction is a real pain. You get random infra down every once a while and internal support becomes even worse since they started offshoring to LCOL area in 2025. 4. Hiring freeze in San Jose... just expect more layoff coming up + frequent meetings at night / early morning across regions
