J'ai travaillé chez DISH à temps plein plus d'un an

    Avantages

Decent pay for a call center lots of overtime available Obtainable bonuses and other incentives Work from home, full time with good benefits. Transparency in the company long term goals (love the updates)

    Inconvénients

Long hours, little flexibility. High stress, under-staffed, back to back calls. Repetitive, boring and dehumanizing work. Feedback and QA demoralizing processes play a definite role in high turnover rates. Bootlickers are rewarded

    Conseils à la direction

First, thank you for being human and striving to do the best for your employees. The Work-at-Home Management team is made of rockstars. In spite of the mindset and culture being just right, the procedures are not. QA and feedback processes sadly focus on failures rather than winnings and it is demoralizing. Positive reinforcement has been shown over and over to work the best. Training practices are outdated and... focus on pseudoscientific "learning styles" and passive learning. A real continued training would have the employee listening to their own phone calls, rating their own performance and reflecting on how to improve actively rather than passively. Also, a better practice is rating each employee against their own metrics and striving for constant improvement in a timeline, not point time period (as in, in a time graph). When you compete against yourself, and not against a fixed external number, motivation becomes intrinsic. Moreover, while Dish promotes from within, mobility in the company is dependent upon having specific personality traits and doesn't take advantage of individual strengths. In this regard, peer and bottom-to-top, formal and anonymous evaluations, would greatly benefit Dish. I cannot stress enough how I wish I could have given the most negative possible review to one of my trainers and the most positive one to another but wasn't given this change - and every single person in that training class agrees with me. I saw amazing trainers being demoted and untalented flatterers being promoted. While back-to-back calls are a reality in most call centers, if you're really striving to be the best in customer services, you should first strive to be the best for your internal customers. It's just not possible, biologically, to keep this level of focus for this extended period without being burned out. The brain consumes 20% of our energy and mental activity IS physical activity. The huge amount of money Dish spends with recruitment would be way better applied in retaining the already employed people, by simply allowing them breathing time. I cannot fathom having being told to not stop for a few seconds to drink water in between calls and it was decisive in making me seek employment in another place. Dish cares about its employees and will work with your concerns and complaints to the extent of what's possible. But it is a huge company and as so, cemented in procedures, but still offers more positives than negatives and I wholeheartedly recommend Dish, especially if you’re an extrovert.

    Avantages

DISH truly provides opportunity for its employees. There are so many "Cinderella" stories of call center agents working their way up through the ranks and becoming executives... how many Fortune 500 companies can say that? It's not just the front-line employees who get this chance, DISH & Sling give you a chance to reinvent yourself as long as you are a high performer and demonstrate the cultural values. It's... not uncommon to see someone go from Operations to Marketing, or HR into IT... all without the need to take a pay cut and sometimes even with a promotion. Again, not many companies allow this to happen. You work hard at DISH, but with that hard work, you grow much faster professionally than you might elsewhere. Even if you stay with the company for a short period of time (1-2 years), the skill set that you develop is usually going to be highly valuable at other companies. DISH is a fantastic place for recent grads and even mid-level career professionals who don't really know what they want to do for the rest of their careers. The people at DISH are amazing to work with and one of the strongest attributes of the company -- picture working in a group project where everyone not only does their portion of the work, but also the extra credit. And the slackers... well they just naturally weed themselves out in this culture, which is nice. You also get great exposure, especially if you're based in Denver. The majority of the corporate functions are based in the Englewood facility, so you get to work with a variety of business groups and get lots of face-time with executives. DISH has some amazing executives (DISH Marketing, IT, Customer Experience, Billing & Credit, Finance, Programming) that you can work with. All-in-all, I would highly recommend DISH as an employer for these reasons.

    Inconvénients

No company is perfect, but these are the major areas of improvement for DISH & Sling. Senior leadership has a very archaic thought process when it comes to employee experience. While there have been great strides and improvements through the years, they still fail to give the needed focus on some of the most common things their competitors offer in spades: diversity & inclusion (I know this is difficult for... Denver, but there really needs to be an actual program), a formal work-from-home policy, better benefit options, and regular market adjustments for compensation. Charlie Ergen is an incredibly smart man, but lacks true passion for employee experience. Erik Carlson shows promise, but like most of the homegrown Senior Leaders, seems to be stuck in a lot of the "old school" mentality and doesn't show the adaptability needed to retain millennial employees for long periods of time. Also, some senior leaders are just downright horrible and are the main reason for certain departments having toxic cultures (Sling, Retention, Corp. Communications) and creating the "boys club" mentality. The engagement scores and exit surveys should be enough to do something about these leaders, but nothing ever seems to come to fruition.

    Conseils à la direction

Look at what other companies can offer employees, and stop assuming that "opportunity" will be enough to retain people when it comes at a cost (work-life balance, badge report, no bonus structure.) Also, take a very close look at your senior leadership team, and remove the toxic leaders while there's still time.

    Avantages

Given little experience, you are given a lot of responsibility. Which allows for excellent room to grow. Additionally, moving between teams and departments is encouraged so there is incredible opportunity to learn something you don’t have experience in.

    Inconvénients

Their benefits are not competitive, and the culture of the company as a whole is very old school. That being said, it changes based on your direct manager. It’s just sad that managers have to break the rules to give their employees the flexibility they deserve.
