Humans often work less hard in teams. Weaver ants do the opposite. 🐜 New research in Current Biology by Cell Press shows these ants become 'superefficient' when working together, pulling 103 times their body weight by forming chains, insights that could transform robotics and swarm design. How does Scopus AI’s newest innovation, Deep Research, create reports that feel like they’re written just for you? Deep Research leverages agentic AI, with a reasoning engine designed to support complex research workflows. When you ask a question, it develops a detailed research plan and performs dozens of searches across the vast, curated literature in Scopus. Throughout the process, it reviews findings, refines its strategy, and adjusts course as new insights emerge, ensuring a thorough and thoughtful exploration of your topic. The result? A comprehensive, downloadable report that can save days of preliminary research, uncovering connections and surfacing new perspectives that help propel you toward your next discovery. 🎓 “What is occurring is revolution, not evolution” As federal R&D support shrinks and talent pipelines narrow, former The Kavli Foundation President Dr Robert W. Conn, and Caltech President Dr Thomas Rosenbaum warn of a looming innovation deficit. Together they outline four principles for a new compact between government and universities: • Intellectual freedom • Institutional neutrality and individual freedom • Inclusive excellence • Free movement of people and ideas Discover their insights in Not Alone: Leaders in Focus and join the conversation on how to safeguard discovery, economic growth, and America’s scientific leadership: http://spkl.io/6040AMcqj

Artificial intelligence has invented two new potential antibiotics that killed drug-resistant gonorrhoea and MRSA in early lab and animal tests, researchers report in Cell. The drugs were designed atom-by-atom by generative AI, opening a path to faster, cheaper discovery in a field where the pipeline has been running dry for decades. 🔗 Read the full article.
Scientists in China have developed a method to extract water from lunar soil and use it to convert carbon dioxide into oxygen and chemical fuels — a potential breakthrough for long-term human missions on the Moon. In a new study published in Joule, researchers from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen 香港中文大学(深圳), and Nanjing University demonstrate how this one-step, sunlight-powered system could reduce the need to transport water and fuel from Earth.
Reaxys contains 121 million data points, including 46 million patents as well as articles and other content. The database is searchable by keyword or drawn molecule structures, and now natural language queries, thanks to generative AI. “Reaxys AI Search avoids the need to construct complex keyword searches,” as a press release put it.
