Two weeks ago, our team at our Fraser HQ came together for a Pride celebration that held space for reflection, connection, and joy. We began with a deeply moving Fireside Chat featuring Latoya Nugent from Rainbow Railroad and Matthew Cutler from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. With honesty and courage, they spoke about the current realities facing 2SLGBTQIA+ communities — reminding us that Pride is not a moment, but a movement. A heartfelt thank you to Mark Mortera, co-lead of our 2SLGBTQIA+ Community, for moderating with such care and intention. After the conversation, we shared a rooftop BBQ lunch, followed by an unforgettable performance from Canada’s Drag Race S5 Winner, The Virgo Queen! We’re grateful to everyone who made this day possible — from the teams behind the scenes to every person who showed up. These moments reflect what belonging means to us: creating room for truth, for celebration, and for one another. <3
🌍 This Earth Day, we reconnected—with the land, community, and truth. Our DECIEM team had the honour of being hosted by the Four Colours Drum Circle and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) at Heart Lake Conservation Park. In the spirit of respect and reconciliation, we came together to learn from and work alongside the original stewards of Turtle Island. We were grateful to participate in a Smudging Ceremony, a sacred practice involving the burning of traditional medicines to cleanse, ground, and center. It reminded us to slow down and be fully present. The steady rhythm of the drum—representing the heartbeat of Mother Earth—echoed through the day and through us. As the first group of the season to care for the Medicine Wheel Garden, we helped clear brush, remove leaves, and gently sort stones that represent the four directions, the four sacred medicines, and the cycles of life. We learned that everything in the garden has purpose and meaning—from the placement of each rock to the teachings it holds. The garden also symbolizes the Seven Grandfather Teachings—Humility, Honesty, Respect, Courage, Wisdom, Truth, and Love—principles that guide a good life and remind us how to walk gently on this Earth. We left filled with gratitude—for the teachings, the connection, and the opportunity to support those who carry this wisdom every day. This Earth Day, we are reminded: caring for the planet begins with listening. 🌱
Last month, in honour of Black History Month, our newly formed Black Voices @ DECIEM Community was privileged to host two events that ignited powerful conversations on resilience, career journeys, and the importance of creating inclusive spaces. We welcomed the incredible Esther Olu “The Melanin Chemist", a cosmetic chemist and partner of ours, to our office to share her inspiring career journey in science. We also shared some delicious baked goods with the team from a local Black-owned bakery, Butter & Spice. In addition, we hosted a powerful networking event, Creating Connections: Black Excellence in Focus, and invited local Black student-led associations to our Fraser HQ. We were joined by an incredible panel of trailblazers, (Jon Vinyl, Kimberly Knight & Shanelle McKenzie, co-founders of The Villij, Tiffany Ramsubick, co-owner of Ode Hotel Toronto, who shared their stories and experiences on resilience, creating spaces, and the power of community. We want to help create a world of Belonging for all, and being a part of conversations with current and future Black leaders in our community is an essential part of that. Thank you to everyone in our team and in our community.
DECIEM started as a group of good people doing good things. We recognize that the well-being & sustainability of the communities around us are key to our success. To encourage everyone to be active members of their community and provide them with time to do so, DECIEM created the Good Day. What is a Good Day? A Good Day is one paid day each year for team members to take time away from work and volunteer to do good in their communities. Volunteering with others is a great way to foster connection, strengthen relationships, and create an even bigger impact. <3
Our team at DECIEM had the privilege of hosting Say Somaali, a Toronto grassroots organization led by Black youth with the goal of boosting the success and fulfillment of Somali youth, at our Fraser head office. During the tour, the students had the chance to witness every aspect of operations, from clinical research to lab processes and commercial production. Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions with team members, the students gained a comprehensive understanding of DECIEM's mission, values, and commitment to innovation. Overall, the young adults were able to witness firsthand DECIEM's dedication to inclusivity and affordability in skincare, and the value of working for a company that prioritizes fostering a sense of Belonging in the workplace.

This past Saturday, September 30th, marked the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada, the country DECIEM calls home. This country has a complex history with colonialism and in order to create a world where every human being experiences a genuine sense of belonging, we need to commit to reconciliation. We are partnering with the Canadian Centre for Aboriginal Business as a PAR committed organization to ensure our company is held accountable to this journey. Today we are sharing three commitments on toward reconciliation: 🧡Learn & Unlearn: Our Senior Leadership team has recently completed the 4 Seasons of Reconciliation training module through First Nations University and as a next step, we will be rolling out this learning to all Canadian team members. 🧡Leverage Diversity as Our Strength: By 2026, we pledge to increase our percentage of Indigenous-identifying team members at all career levels to mirror local benchmarks. We will also engage with Indigenous consumers, businesses, and suppliers to understand the unique needs of Indigenous communities and extend our platform and resources to uplift Indigenous businesses. 🧡Build Trust Through Purpose: We will build trust through respecting the land we occupy, finding meaningful ways to build up Indigenous youth through education, and ensuring we continue our reconciliation through social impact and reparations to Indigenous communities.
Wildfires are ravaging our communities and our planet - it’s heartbreaking. As we write this message, fires continue to burn across our home in Canada and extreme wildfires have developed across the world. These fires have a devasting impact on ecosystems and communities. We believe by continuing to engage and share, we play our small part ensuring climate change becomes a global priority. We will be donating $100K CAD to GlobalMedic to provide urgent support to the local communities across Canada. This is part of our emergency fund to respond to global crises, help people in need, and offer short term relief. We’re not a sustainable company but we are acutely aware of our impact and are working on long term initiatives to reduce it. We firmly believe all companies have a collective responsibility to fight climate change -- one of the most pressing crises facing humanity and our planet.
