This company probably wins for the most off-putting interview I have done in my career so I feel the need write this feedback to this community (as Glassdoor is a wonderfully helpful resource for those on the job hunt). I had high hopes going into this interview. The company is intriguing and seems to be doing great work. Their mission is to “save lives and reduced human suffering”... but quickly into the interview it was apparent this is well and truly their buzz sentence (it will be dropped any chance possible). I had read a review on here about the cult vibes before I went in but here’s the second hand raised to say it’s seemingly true. The recruiter was very friendly however seemed very green and to put it no other way, appeared brainwashed. She stressed heavily her 12+ hour days, how inspiring it is that the CEO works 7 days a week and how if you don’t put in the hours you won’t cut it. That may be the truth, but it was communicated in a childish almost bragging way. Again saving lives reducing human suffering was dropped as a justification for why these long hours are expected. There was lots of boasting about the previous roles the executives held which seemed almost part of a script. An example of a description of the company: “We are not the typical startup with beanbags and foosball tables because we are focused on saving lives” From what I read about the CEO, he seemed like a wildcard with a great story. The way he was described in the interview though it seems like he is very dominating (I mean the guy has a huge picture of himself on the homepage of the company website so should have figured) and not creating a healthy work/life balance culture. There's no question the company is doing great work. I wish them the best. I myself was turned off by the recruiters description of the culture, workplace environment and leadership to continue further. If you're trying to recruit the “best talent” to a mid-senior level, perhaps a recruiter with more experience and a better approach as your first point of contact with the company would be a more successful strategy.

There is so much that is positive about Banjo, so I am sorry to hear your experience with Banjo was not positive. We have learned through experience that the speed at which Banjo operates is difficult for some people to navigate, so we have gone to great lengths to describe the environment in a no-nonsense way so candidates know what they can expect working at Banjo. The last thing we want is for someone to join the company because they are excited about our mission but then become frustrated because the pace and demands are more than they anticipated. That said, if our approach was off the mark, I apologize. I welcome the opportunity to discuss in more detail with you, and you can reach me at shane@teambanjo.com. In the meantime, I wish you the best in your job search.
