Phone interview followed by a UX design exercise. The phone interview went well but the design exercise/meeting review was ridiculous! They're expecting perfection with an exercise in 4 hrs allocated time. This was followed by very condescending comments and questions about the design/prototype and why it wasn't perfect. It was overall inane and baffling to question why wasn't a full blown mobile app not fully built (high fidelity prototype) with overall perfect UI design within 4 hours. I'm not kidding you not am I exaggerating! To me this is a HUGE red flag when you're not even given a chance to present actual perfected work from your portfolio. They're either fishing/stealing ideas from candidates or harshly making candidates jump thru hoops. Awful! Just be cautious, I am glad this "UX Director" showed his true colors. I would never work for company that allows such awful, rude, condescending behavior.

I completed a phone screen, UI/UX take home challenge and critique with the UX Director at iManage.
They sold the take home challenge as a ~4 hour project to redesign a workflow for one of their own applications. This was already a red flag for me, as it seems they are fishing for free ideas to improve their own product. The critique was handled very poorly by the team. Rather then having an open discussion around my UI/UX patterns, and system hierarchy, the critique became an assault on my capabilities and choices ( down to their dislike of certain icons I used to represent functionality). It seems they were expecting a pixel perfect mockup that 100% delivered on every scenario in their application. Considering the level of complexity of the assignment is not possible in that time frame, and as an early stage interview, I am uncomfortable spending more of my personal time delivering free work for their product. I left the critique with a very bad taste in my mouth, and even if extended the offer for an onsite, I would have refused. Good luck working with this team . . .
