I was contacted by eCommerce Placement for an open position with a consolidator / operator of Amazon FBA brands. Four separate interviews with different combinations of senior leadership, including the Founder/CEO. This was positioned as an opportunity to help build their Business Intelligence operations from the ground up; they asked a ton of fundamental questions which was understandable, as it was a new and unfamiliar function for them. By the third interview, I let my eCommerce Placement recruiter know my thoughts -- that they were essentially mining me for information but not moving towards a hiring decision. I agreed to a fourth interview with the reassurance from the recruiter that they were indeed getting ready to make a decision. I was enthusiastic, as it looked like a great opportunity to build something brand new. After the fourth interview, was notified by the eCommerce Placement recruiter that they decided to put the entire position on hold. As I had suspected. Being this was one of eCommerce Placement's senior recruiters, I would have expected a little more savvy and 'going to bat' instead of wasting my time on a client's fishing expedition. All the above would probably be chalked up to 'lesson learned' except the recruiter went on to ghost me for the next month. Your mileage may vary, but always trust your gut.
