I completed an initial recruiter screening via Microsoft Teams. The recruiter declined to turn on their camera when requested. The call felt incredibly rushed; no relevant questions were asked about my background, and I was not given time to ask any of my own prepared questions about the position.
When I followed up via email to ask my role-specific questions and clarify an accidental availability conflict on a holiday, the response was unprofessional and condescending. The email questioned if I was confused and dismissed my inquiry by stating the information had already been covered during our brief introductory call.
While the interviewer initially cancelled the next step before asking me to reschedule a week later, the unprofessional communication and defensive tone were major red flags. This interaction gave me a very poor impression of the organization's culture, and I chose to withdraw from the hiring process.
