J'ai postulé en personne. Le processus a pris 1 jour. J'ai passé un entretien chez Wilko (Greenock, Écosse) en juin 2010

I heard about this company having an open interview period over 3 days and decided to go along. I had never been to an open interview before in my life. When I got to the hall at Mid Kirk in Greenock, I was shocked to see the way it was set up. I honestly felt as though I was in a soup kitchen.
As soon as I arrived there was a lady at the door who told me someone upstairs would review my application for completion ( This was bizarre and I found it a little insulting to assume that all people were too stupid to know how to fill out an application form). However, off I dutifully toddled onwards. I entered the hall and sure enough 3 people were seated right at the door, and I had to show my application to one of them to check it for me ( gimme a break).
I then was directed to sit at one of the seats along the wall. (There were desks set up in the middle of the floor filled with people filling out their application forms, and even had walkers there to help them with it ). So I took my seat along with maybe 50 other people and we all proceeded to move along the wall one seat at a time until we got to the stairs, All the while, there was a neverending stream of more people just entering the hall. This processt o get to the stairs took about 35 mins. At the stairs a yound lad appeared and stated how many people could follow him downstairs to the managers doing the interviewing i.e 'room for 1, 2, 3 ' etc.
I was then led down to meet the managers, 16 in all, at seperate desks each interviewing people ( moved down from the steady assembly line of chairs around the wall upstairs). The young lad I got looked like he had lost the will to live by the time I got to him. He was a very deadpan, unsmiling, limp hand-shaking, dour faced young man. I was asked 5 standard questions that everyone was asked after discussing VERY briefly my 23 yr work experience. This took all of 5 mins. I was then told If I was successful I'fd be called back June 7th ( needless to say I wasn't). At that point another limp handshake and out the door I went. What a miserable, soul sucking experience it was. I honestly felt like a beggar in a soup kitchen, and will NEVER do an open interview again in my life. I also have to say that I was highy unimpressed with the dress sense and the professionalism of the wilkinsons staff.

Interview was half hour late and the company appear to be interviewing anyone who applied. The interview itself wasnt particularly relevant to the role nor were the questions insightful. I felt they just used a standard interview for any role not asking questions finding out whether I was suitable for the job.
