I had 3 interviews in total, all in person, lucky due to close proximity. The 1st interview was very pleasant and relaxing. However sadly from the 2nd interview things started going downhill because of an arrogant and disrespectful department head joining the process. This person has to be one of the most unprofessional and intimidating people I have ever met and this in not an exaggeration.
I have attended many interviews in my time and have come across many interview processes and people conducting them. However nothing like this, this person did not let you finish one sentence without interrupting you. He was willing to hear only what he wanted to hear and nothing else. They did not test your technical or business competency once but instead challenged you on subjective matters.
I would highly recommend that you steer clear of any interview process involving this person (Head of Major IT Projects) to avoid a similar experience.
I'm sorry but when someone intimidates and belittles you constantly its hard to feel welcomed and be at your best at an interview. I knew what sort of character he was within seconds of being in the same room as him, since others in the room stayed hush throughout the process with him around and did not dare to say anything.
Overall I am very disappointed with Wates management and overall recruitment experience and wouldn't expect a firm with such reputation to employ and apply such disgusting tactics and would strongly advise to get rid of them if you want to attract people who have best interests for the business at heart and are talented in what they do.
They also changed the job spec half way, as it went from a Technical Lead to Management focused on top of everything else.
I will finish by stating that I should have walked out of the 2nd interview with my head held up high and stopped the process there and then, so a lesson learnt from me. This way I would have avoided everything that followed.
