The entire process to get hired was a NIGHTMARE!!! There were a million unnecessary steps and it took 5 months to get to my "end". The steps were as follows: 1) 911 Telecommunicator test online on camera...2)Teams phone screen with 2 people (IT and a supervisor)...3) A 4 hour side-by-side with one of their telecommunicators (There were only 4 call takers in there and more than half of them weren't friendly at all)...4) Orientation (I should've stopped at this point because I already saw that they were messy and unprofessional)...5) Brought them back the background packet they gave at orientation and got fingerprints done...6) Came in for an interrogation with an officer that lasted over 3 hours where she asked for my life story and snooped through my social media pages...7) Lie detector testing. Months went by through all of these steps, and every time I came back, I had to pay for parking! I finally gave up waiting to hear back and then, all of a sudden, a new officer called me stating that he just got my file the day before. He was rude and very snappy during our call. That didn't sit well with me AT ALL because who are you & where is the lady I've been dealing with all this time? Anyway, he re-interrogated me asking me questions she already asked me in step #6. He then said he had to send my file to 2 other people to make sure he didn't miss anything and then he could move me to the next step of interviewing with the panel. The next week, he called me with an interview date/time. Why on the day BEFORE my interview did he call me stating that they no longer wanted to interview me because of my work history (the one they saw before this entire process got started!!!!). He just didn't like that I snapped back at him when he got smart with me the week before. I was so annoyed, not because they didn't interview me, but because I wasted SO MUCH TIME and MONEY on this process because they were too lazy to do their own background check or verify my degrees themselves. They knew my work history BEFORE they ever contacted me. So, they completely wasted my time/money. They closed my application and then reposted the position the very next day. They have a high turnover for a reason! They put you through so many hoops like you're applying to the FBI/CIA when they NEED people! I would NEVER suggest anyone waste their time with this department. The craziest part is that I've worked for Wake County several times & no one else ever had a problem with my work history...they also did their own background check without me having to spend a dime. So, this department is lazy, unprofessional, and unethical! Oh, and they pull your credit leaving a HARD pull and not a SOFT employment pull. So, be aware because they don't tell you this upfront! This department has a bad rap for a reason!!
