Was contacted by HR. There were 2 telephonic interviews with senior engineers from San Jose, they were excellent interviews, the interviewers were very polite. The first interview was an in-depth discussion about synchronization mechanisms for threads. In particular, we discussed two problems: (i) the lost wakeup problem and how associating a mutex with a condition variable solved it. (ii) the thundering herd problem. The second one was more to do with storage and file systems. In particular, we discussed snapshot implementations.
There were also about 4 in-person interviews in Bangalore. These were the usual technical interviews, nothing to write home about - except for one in which the interviewer was more interested in C programming puzzles.

You are given read-only access to all the modifying I/Os that target a block device, as they happen. Use this to implement point-in-time snapshots for the block device. The snapshots do not live on the block device. You are not allowed to modify the contents of the block device. Assume you are in user space. Feel free to assume access to anything else that you might need for your implementation; please do call your assumptions explicitly.

Initially 3 rounds were scheduled. 2 Online (Elimination, means On-Site round will be conducted based on performance of online interviews), 1 On-Site (face-to-face). After 2 online rounds, recruiter informed me they planning to hire for Principal Engineer position (which was 2 level above where i was working) so they conducted one more online round before On-Site round.

I applied for a remote position and stated a salary within their range. HR says since I'm remote, she will have to offer $15k less. Wtf? I live in a high-cost coastal CA city. HR ends the interview saying they'll get in touch with me by end of week and that they don't ghost candidates, and they ended up ghosting me. How bizarre. I would never expect this from a company like Western Digital. HR seemed very inexperienced and unprofessional.
