J'ai postulé via la recommandation d'un employé. Le processus a pris 1 semaine. J'ai passé un entretien chez Virtusa (Toronto, ON) en févr. 2021
Entretien
I was referred to a Salesforce CRM Business analyst role by my acquaintance to Virtusa (Toronto) on 29-Jan-2021. However, on 1-Feb-2021 (2 days after being referred), I received a mail from the Talent team for an alternate Senior Business Analyst opportunity with the job description being pretty generalist BA activities except for the first statement "Business Analyst resource with excellent knowledge of the project lifecycle and application development process methodologies related to AML/ KYC domain". I went ahead and agreed to be interviewed for this opportunity as I had a fair amount of AML/KYC experience in the past: to be specific 3 years as Business analyst on FATCA/CRS Reporting and Solution architecture support for Name Screening/Transaction Monitoring.
My interview was scheduled for 3-Feb-2021 evening at 5pm for which the panelist did not join until 5:15 pm. The Talent team member apologized for the delay and mentioned that he will reschedule it. I let it be and shut down my laptop. 5 min later I received a call to join back on the meeting link as he had found an alternate panelist. I joined back and the interview started with the panelist letting me know that this was a role where they are looking for expert experience in North American and Canadian KYC and AML regulations (does the JD mention to this detail? NO). I went ahead and explained whatever was relevant for the role with my 3 years of KYC/AML work experience.
There were questions like: What is Name Screening? Why is it done? Why should companies do this? What is transaction monitoring? Why is it important?
After briefly describing my knowledge of these terminologies from my project experience, the panelist began passing denigrating comments such as
"Why do they call System Analysis as Solution Architecture in your ex-firm?
I can see that you are taking wild guesses at my questions"
I have attended multiple interviews with similar questions and never have I received such loathsome replies discrediting my experience. I was in utter dismay of the sheer tyrannizing behavior of an experienced senior panelist. To add to this, I do not believe someone who doesn't have experience in this domain will answer those questions with relevant answers like screening names of customers against a watchlist that have banned names, terrorist organisation names, adverse media data etc. I worked with an excellent team of architects in my previous firm where I have had sessions educating me what is the role of a solution architect versus project architect versus enterprise architect. Even a solution architect needs to do system analysis to create a full-fledged solution plan. That does not mean a Solution architect is a Business analyst.
In the light of this nasty experience, I would like to highlight how few weeks ago I was in another interview that was scheduled for 30 min and the panelist knew that I was not the right candidate for the position he was trying to fill in - he politely told me where else I would fair better, and we ended the process in 10 minutes mutually agreeing my strengths and weaknesses for the role. This kind of attitude is what reflects the culture of the company we are signing up for. No one is disappointed and we learn what we can do better.
Finally, I wish to highlight to this forum that this is definitely not a rant on me not getting forward with this role. In fact, I am glad I got to know the team as early as this in the process. This is to highlight how awful people can be. I do not wish anyone to have such a negative experience while they are sincerely looking for jobs putting in so much effort and time to prepare for interviews. I also wish the leaders speak with the talent team and create better job descriptions or have a technical resource have an initial screening call before an actual panelist interview.
