I attended an interview with ValueLabs recently. After completing technical rounds, the company asked me to share all my educational documents, PF account details, payslips, bank statements, and other personal documents, saying it was for Pre-BGV (background verification) and that only the HR round was pending.
After the HR round, they requested even more documents. When I asked why these were needed before receiving an offer letter, they insisted it was due to moonlighting concerns.
However, I strongly believe that candidates should share such sensitive documents only after receiving an official offer letter. If, for any reason, the candidate decides not to join—such as the offer not meeting expectations—there’s no reason their personal data should already be with the company.
Despite providing all the documents they asked for, I never received an offer letter. This raises a serious concern about how such documents are handled and stored.
We are living in a digital era where data misuse is a real risk. If companies don’t trust candidates, candidates too have every right to question the company’s practices.
⚠️ My suggestion to all job seekers:
Please do not share your personal or financial documents before receiving a valid offer letter. Protect your data and verify your employer before sharing anything sensitive.
