      Entretien pour Senior Product Designer

      23 mars 2021
      Candidat à l'entretien anonyme
      Portland, ME
      Aucune offre
      Expérience négative
      Entretien facile

      Candidature

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. J'ai passé un entretien chez Unum (Portland, ME) en mars 2021

      Entretien

I was contacted by a recruiter for the role, who was very nice and clearly had extensive experience recruiting for STEM roles specifically. I was asked a couple of initial questions in the phone screen to understand what I was looking for in my next role as well gauge my general ability to do the job as described. I ended up progressing through the interview process only to have leadership tell me they expected me to do the same level of work as a Sr Product Designer but did not want to title me due to the fact that other OLDER product designers were not promoted to the same title, and they based their promotional levels on years of experience (translation = age). They then expected me to justify in front of a panel why I should be taken seriously, and why my abilities and work product should be valued at a Sr. Design Level despite saying that I would be expected to perform all the duties of a Sr level designer at a Sr design level. This is not something they would have asked of an older candidate with equivalent skill, design ability, and portfolio quality and they ADMITTED this during the process. It was an extremely unethical, ageist, and archaic expectation that reflects poorly on the company culture. Highly negative experience.
