Have had many interviews before and never an experience this unprofessional or frankly, exploitative. Had phone interview Friday night, Had a very positive interview that was very thorough, was asked questions about experience and was explained the role, was told there will be a very short writing assignment to be done by mid next week. Received “quick” assignment on Friday at 6pm to be done by Monday at 10am. Was really interested in the position so decided to just do it. 15 hours of work minimum. It has two distinct parts: 1st assignment. Plan, strategy, all event planning details and elements, budget and critical path for holiday party for 700 ppl, 2nd assignment is brand campaign for recruiting new staff with detailed explanations. Huge projects. Did not hear feedback for 2 weeks. So why the urgency of completing such an enormous project in 48 hours? Got a few emails from the recruiter saying the team was away or busy and that I’ll hear back about setting up meetings which implied second interview. At two week mark received an automated impersonal email saying they chose another candidate. Then got email from recruiter saying they landed on a candidate more suitable. Not only are homework assignments of that scope absolutely unethical, the treatment after did not inspire confidence that this organization cared about people at all.
