Another case where the HR representative is dragging down a company reputation, by his mediocre skills and time-wasting. The HR approach is to make you talk about your skills so that they can see if you are a fit for any of their (obscure) roles, which to some extent, is fine. The catch is that they don't tell (or avoid telling) you anything about the specifics of the role, and I'm inclined to believe that they don't even bother going through your CV. So you might be a Foo Developer, but they're looking for a Bar Developer. That means you'll spend an hour or more learning about a company you definitely don't want to be working for, and waste 15-20 mins in a useless interview that's cliche and barely assesses your skills. And then the HR tells you that he'll talk to the hiring manager and see if they need any Foo Developers and get back to you, but, anyone can tell that you'll never hear from him again.

After an initial phone screening, I was called in for a first technical interview (2 hours) where I did some exercises with different developers and talked about my previous experiences. After that I was called in for another interview with the CTO (1.5 hours) where again I talked about my previous roles and how I contributed to the projects I worked on. I was then asked for two references, who were called and questioned about how I work. After wasting my references' time, they decided to not make me an offer stating my technical level as a reason (which they knew from the first in-house interview).

So sorry you had a disappointing interview experience - but many thanks for your feedback. Since this interview, we've made steps to improve the experience for candidates - both in terms of the pace, the assessment and our process. From initial chat/coffee, through to coding challenge, coding challenge assessment and then (depending on role) half or one day audition - we aim to move at the pace of the candidate and are in most cases able to issue offers within one working day. If a candidate isn't right for the role we offer, we provide detailed feedback from each part of the assessment - that way we try to make it win-win from a candidate perspective - an offer for a suitable role or useful constructive feedback that we hope is useful for their career progression. Throughout the process, we try and expose how the company and it's people really work - so a candidate gets to make an assessment of Triptease too. We've invited candidates to town halls, tech showcases, spend a day with the team etc. with no interview pressure. It was wrong to contact your references pre-offer and I'm please to report that this is not something we have done since. HTH James (CTO)
