A brand new store was opening in my area and I saw an article in the local paper that they were hiring. The only way to apply is in person (they want to get to know you). I printed the application off of the website and headed down to the store. There, one of the managers accepted my appliacation and sat me down for a quick, ~10 minute basic interniew. Afer that I was given a date & time for a second interview. This secind interview was held in a hotel meeting room. The second interview was the most thorough, and contained the tyical questions from any job interview. After a 20-30 minute chat, I was given a date & time to return for a third inteview. The third interview took place back at the store and was with the store captain (Trader Joe's codeword for head store manager). He asked me a few basic questions, and at the end of the inerview he hired me on the spot and I was given a date & time to coem back for training. There were no especially difficult of unexpected questions during any of the interviews. No drug/literary/skills tests, just one on one interviews.
