Made it to the second round and then was told they would be going in another direction. I am a bit rusty from not being in a selling/interview capacity in the past year after being laid off due to COVID. The first call with the recruiter was standard. The second call was another story. They asked me to prepare a 2-3 minute pitch for their product, which was easy. But they were insistent that I use the "Challenger" selling style. Which, by the way, isn't proven and after doing extensive research, I ultimately figured out it just isn't conclusive that its effective. The woman who interviewed didn't seem all that kind and was very concerned when I mentioned there were no formal reprimands at my last position for missing sales goals (even though I never missed one). Didn't really feel like someone I would want to work for.

Were there any reprimands for missing sales goals in your last position? What are three of your strengths and weaknesses?

The recruiter was very pleasant but I was astonished by the unprofessionalism of the hiring manager. The recruiter was very impressed by my background and stated that this is a very good match. The hiring manager didn't contact me on our first interview, so we rescheduled. Then the second interview was rescheduled at the last moment. Finally we were able to talk about 2 weeks later. The hiring manager did not sound interested in my answers and her responses sounded very unenthusiastic. Even heard the manager getting ice and opening a drink during the interview. From the questions she asked and the answers she gave to my questions, they are looking for young, right out of undergrad kids that are malleable.

Thanks for sharing this feedback! We truly care about the time and energy that candidates put into interviewing with us, and I’m sorry that that was not felt during your interview process. We clearly have some coaching to do based on this feedback. If you’re comfortable, I welcome you to reach out to me directly on LinkedIn so that I can address this directly with the hiring manager. - Mike Brown, VP Talent & Insights

I had an interview with a recruiter first. The conversation went by fast. She was the fastest talking person I’ve ever talked to which turned me off. It made me feel this conversation wasn’t organic and very transactional. Unlike most conversations with recruiters I’ve had in the past. Then I had a conversation with the district manager. He was very bland, asked very basic questions. They want you to really do research on the product and how it works. I halted the interview when he said this position can expect to work 80 hours a week. The base pay is 51k. There’s commission and ote is over 100k, but there’s plenty of companies that pay more for that kind of hour requirement. Thank u, next.

Thank you for taking the time to interview with our team. I'm sorry that the conversations felt dry and transactional. Interviewer training is something that we plan to invest more heavily in in 2019, as this is certainly not the candidate experience that we're striving for. In terms of this role, it's certainly not your typical 9-5, but there isn't a prescribed number of hours that you're expected to work each week. Thanks again for taking the time to interview with us. - Mike Brown, VP Talent
