      Entretien

The first step in the interview process was the usual, a 30 minute zoom call. They asked about my experience with teaching and specifically with test prep. I was then invited to an "evaluation" which was 2 session, 2 hours long, and I was given several pages of "homework" to complete before the evaluation. I completed their "homework" and showed up to the evaluation, and was told afterwards the first person I interviewed with would be in contact to schedule my next evaluation. I was already scheduled for a second one, and did not hear anything from anyone at the company, so the day before I was scheduled I reached out, and they told me they were still deciding who they were continuing the (very long) interview process with, and they would get back to me. Well, weeks later, I have heard nothing. Since the interview process is so long (over a month) and with several hours of "homework" weekly, I asked if they would be hiring everyone who did well in their evaluations, or if they were interviewing more people than they had positions. This was answered in a very roundabout way, and I don't doubt this is why they ghosted me. They also admitted that if the student's no-show or cancel, you are not paid, even if you are at work. And if a student is late, you will not be paid for the time you spent waiting, your pay will be docked depending on how late the student was. Could be a great gig if you don't need money, and just want some extra money on the side, but if you are looking for a job where the company values its employees, this is not the place for you.

The interview process is multi-stage. After I submitted my resume, I had a call with their Head of Talent. Felt more like a conversation than a typical interview, which was a refreshing change. After that, I had two evaluation/training sessions with the Director of Instruction. Before these, I had to complete some take-home assignments. At first, I thought, "Homework? Really?" But, turns out, they were materials I'd be using if I got the job. Smart move on their part, giving me a taste of what's to come. These sessions with the Director of Instruction were unique; they were a mix of training and evaluation. I was learning their teaching methods and materials while they were checking out if I'd be a good fit. After getting through that, I had another session with the same person to wrap up the training and get a deeper feel for the company's vibe and more information about actually working there. After that I went through a training session with the CEO. Instead of the usual corporate talk, it was all about understanding the company's philosophy and how to really connect with students. I've heard from others that depending on your teaching background, this process can be longer or shorter. I appreciate how much effort they put into training - it really makes sure that the instructors they hire are top notch.
