The interview process for a network engineer typically begins with a phone screening, focusing on the candidate's technical background, certifications, and experience with networking protocols and equipment. A technical interview follows, where candidates solve real-world networking scenarios or problems and may be asked to configure devices or troubleshoot network issues. Questions on routing, switching, security, subnetting, and protocols like BGP or OSPF are common. Some companies include hands-on lab assessments or simulations. The final rounds often involve a behavioral interview to assess teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. The process aims to gauge both technical proficiency and cultural fit.
